Release of a new Garmin Forerunner watch family

The American manufacturer Garmin, known for both its GPS and sports watches, has released its new generation of smart health connected watches Forerunner. Watches that will seduce the riders.

It's not one, but three new Forerunner models that Garmin has unveiled. We can first mention the new flagship of the range, the Forerunner 630. It analyzes even more data running than its cousin the 620. Just added the notifications from the linked smartphone, but also the measure of stride and slope during ascent. This takes advantage of the cadence and oscillation measurement features of Forerunner watches.

The watch guides both the athlete in the effort and recovery, indicating the presence of lactic acid, meaning the need to end the effort at the risk of injury. The classic activity monitoring (steps and calories) is obviously part of it. Note, no optical heart rate sensor on the 630. Two possible explanations: either Garmin judge the measure unreliable reliable for serious sportsmen who really need this measure; either the company reserves this functionality for a future product, so as to make it essential.

Forerunner 235

In contrast, the heart sensor is present on the new 235, which also brings the notifications in the manner of a smartwatch, and the measurement of VO2, which can be an effective indicator for recovery after exercise. The running data provided are however less pointed than on the 630. The 230 finally does not offer an integrated heart sensor, but sensors sticking on the chest.

The new Garmin watches are not yet available in France, but should arrive quickly on the French market with respective prices between 250 € and 400 €.
