Engineers from the University of Chicago are working on a bracelet that makes surrounding audio recordings completely inaudible. At a time when smart health connected objects are increasingly equipped with microphones, not to mention smartphones, smartwatches or others, this solution has something to appeal to.

This bracelet, whose aesthetics are not the main asset, is equipped with 24 speakers which broadcast ultrasound on the frequency bands from 24 to 26 kHz, depending on the New york times. However, they make the sound recordings of the surrounding microphones completely inaudible.

The speakers are located all around the bracelet, which makes it possible to diffuse ultrasound in all directions and to limit the areas not covered. Placing on the market is not guaranteed at all

Researchers communicate on the first tests carried out and say they have received interest from investors, but there is no guarantee that this bracelet will ever be industrialized. Particularly because it would disrupt all legitimate uses of devices equipped with microphones, including a simple phone call, but also because hearing aid systems.
