Every summer you sit surely in your favorite chair to watch the famous Tour com France. You've obviously seen snapshots and videos taken from a bicycle handlebar to interfere in the heart of the race. Now, with the Camile R100, all of this is possible for anyone. The Miniwing company presented its GPS camera at the IFA 2020 fair and the editorial team presents its Review.
Mark : MiniwingCategory: GPS cameraConnection: WiFi and BluetoothCompatibility: iOS / coming AndroidPrice: $ 169Availability: AvailableTested with: iPhone 5s
Unboxing of the Camile R100
First, the device comes in a thick white cardboard package. On the front, we find a sober graphic representation of the Camile R100 with camera, ehealth, GPS and WiFi indications. On the edges are the black and white inscriptions "designed for Cycling" and "Camile". On the back, it displays the features of the product that we will describe later and the instructions for properly hanging it on the handlebars of a bicycle.
By lifting the upper part of the box, it discovers the Camile R100 alone, resting in its recess. To continue exploring the packaging, simply remove it from its holder and remove the white cover.
Below, we find the warranty cards and two small quick installation guides. The first is in Chinese and, for the second, this will be an opportunity to revise your English lessons. But do not panic, everything is simply explained and accompanied by illustrations.
Finally, at the bottom of the box, there is the clip holder for the handlebars of the bike with a USB cable both comfortably installed in their recess. In terms of ergonomics, the packaging is quite successful. He remains sober while giving the impression of being in front of a high-end product. The design of the box vaguely recalls that of the iPhone.
Camile R100 design and ergonomics
The Camile R100, with its weight of 55 grams, is compact and will not take up much space on the handlebars of your bike. It measures 3-4 centimeters wide by about 5 long with a thickness of about twenty millimeters. There will be room for your precious doorbell or your imposing pear horn.
The overall appearance of the Camile R100 is minimalist in design and also recalls the design of the iPhone. The device only has a single round button located at the bottom of the screen. It is completely black, reflective and will light up with LEDs when in use. When the package is opened, it is protected by a transparent plastic that must not be removed.
The Camile R100 is sold in five different colors, green, yellow, blue, red and black. At the editorial office, the red version was delivered to us. The color covers the edges as well as the bottom of the device. The front edge receives a lens also protected by a plastic film. The rear edge, it is equipped with a flat On / Off button and a micro USB port hidden behind a tab. Finally, on the underside of the Camile R100, there is a small base decorated with a minimalist writing "MiniWing". The inscription "Camile" is only present just above but remains extremely discreet.
Overall, the device has a rather attractive design while remaining in simplicity. It will surely fit the handlebars of your bike and will match your tight cycling suit.
Using the Camile R100
To start, you must attach the Camile R100 to the handlebars of your bike. In addition to the illustrations in the installation guide, the system can be understood in seconds. Just like in the photo below, the bracelet wraps around the handlebars of the bike, like a wrist watch.. Remember to point the removable plastic tab in your direction, otherwise the camera will be installed in the wrong direction.
This done, the Camile R100, by means of the small base located at the back of the camera, is placed on the black support. One of its edges slides outward and then closes to hold the camera firmly. Its installation on a bike is very simple and quick. On the other hand, the support does not pivot, so the bar to which it is fixed must be perpendicular to the road. It probably won't work with a riser or vertical
The Camile R100 turns on with a single press of the On / Off button. Green LEDs will directly illuminate the screen. With its backlight, the inscriptions are visible in all light conditions. However, the surface of the screen is extremely reflective and tends to reflect the sun's rays. The installation of a cover should resolve this drawback and make it more resistant to possible falls. Furthermore, it is intriguing that Miniwing does not provide additional protection for this type of product.
To use the Camile R100, nothing could be simpler, it only has a single button. By pressing it several times in succession, the screen alternately displays the time, then the current speed and the distance traveled in real time.. Longer pressing lights up a red light in the upper right corner of the device. It means the camera is working, taking photos or recording videos.
It's not essential to go on a mop with your smartphone close at hand. The connection is made later with the application to have access to all the data. It is very useful to avoid damaging your smartphone during a fall and less cumbersome for movements.
Camile R100 features
The camera captures images with a resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels. It can be set to take pictures continuously with an interval between 5 and 60 seconds. The camera only records videos up to two minutes long. However, they are in full HD 1920 x 1080p at 30 frames per second, in 720p at 60 frames per second, in 720p at 30 frames per second, or in VGA resolution. The optical wide-angle is, according to technical data, 140 degrees with a maximum aperture of f / 2.8.
The images are sharp and of good quality. For videos, they remain stable even on rough roads in the forest. In terms of sound, we mainly hear the noise of the road and that of the bicycle chain. At the same time, with this type of product, the audio is not very useful.
The Camile R100's screen does not display photos and videos. IYou must use WiFi connectivity, Bluetooth and the application to access it. The device comes with a 32 GB SD card. If the memory is full, the oldest ehealth is deleted and replaced by the most recent.
Camile R100 also records GPS positioning, speed and altitude. All the data turns out to be very precise and consistent with reality. Miniwing promises 3 hours of continuous recording or 16 hours with GPS operation only. The integrated battery of 1350 mAh recharges through the USB port in one hour.
Camile R100 application
To start, the application offers to create an account. This done, simply activate the Bluetooth on your smartphone to connect it with the Camile R100.
The application contains 4 main tabs. The first one is called "Moments" and turns out to be a kind of social media with image collections. It is of no real interest.
The second “Routes” tab displays the trip data. It indicates their duration, the distance traveled, the average speed and the maximum. By pressing it with your finger, the path appears in the form of a rather precise plan. You can share it or put it in the trash.
The next tab "Album" is, as its name suggests, the gallery of the Camile R100. It contains all the photos and videos captured by the device. To access the information in the last two tabs, the Camile R100 must be smart health connected via WiFi with your smartphone.
To do this, press and hold the On / Off button until an orange LED appears on the screen of the device. You will then find it in the list of WiFi networks and its password is “12345678”. This information can be found inside the guide found in the last "Device" tab.
This tab allows you to set distance and time goals that will be signaled by alerts when they are reached. The small lens icon gives access to a live ehealth stream that can only be obtained by WiFi. From the settings, you can choose the photo or ehealth mode, select its quality and the intervals between images. It is also possible to configure the Camile R100 to automatically start shooting at a preset time.
Finally, the interface is simple to take in hand even if it requires some exploration time to get used to it. However, we are having trouble with the device's WiFi. After a few connections, it is sometimes impossible to find the Camile R100 in the network list on the smartphone. This makes it impossible to recover all the data.
Against competition
The new MiniWing technology is an industry first. The brand is the only one to offer a camera designed exclusively for cyclists and which displays information in real time while recording videos. The Camile R100 is a completely innovative product and sells for $ 169.
Conclusion
