[ad_1]

The market leader in smart health connected bracelets fitness is back with a newcomer to its range. The Fitbit Alta is equipped with a heart sensor to join the brand's "HR" family. The goal: to be in the mid-range position, between the Flex and the Charge.

Unboxing of Fitbit Alta Hr

It’s a real pleasure to unpack the Fitbit Alta HR. There are so many interesting products that are served by poor packaging, that such attention to detail is worth noting. A single piece of very thin but strong scotch tape hooks the classic cardboard outer packaging to the reinforced cardboard main box.

The finishes are very good, and each part that needs to be handled has a tab that makes it extremely easy. Whether it's the opening of the box or the handling of the accessories, everything is done with fluidity.

To speak more concretely of packaging, the latter is not surprising. It bears the white and cyan color scheme of Fitbit. As usual, we find the description of the product's functionalities through different icons which make everything pleasant to look at.

We can regret an extremely manual succinct which only describes the material in the box (the Fitbit Alta HR and its charger), as well as the name of the brand's application, to be downloaded to operate the product.

Fitbit Alta Hr design and ergonomics

The Fitbit Alta Hr is above all discreet. As the brand's mid-range product, it does not offer a large screen on which a lot of information can be displayed. This one is, however, large enough to display your workout data (not done and heart rate) in progress, the time and notifications you might receive.

We were able to Review the black model, which is the most common. It is not particularly beautiful but goes very well, even in a non-sporting context. You will be able to wear it every day without people believing that you are about to run a marathon.

The Fitbit Alta HR's finishes are excellent and make the product very stylish when looked at more closely. A pattern of stripes drawing geometric shapes covers the bracelet, making it very convincing from a purely aesthetic point of view.

As for ergonomics, it is also there. The bracelet is very light and wears very well. After a few minutes on the wrist, we forget his presence as he knows how to be discreet. It is not too tight despite its reduced size if it is worn with the last notches of the bracelet.

The Fitbit Alta HR is a bit thick compared to what you would expect from a product like this. This is due to the heart sensor present in the head of the bracelet. However, the general design of the tracker hides this little defect very well. You do not realize this until the product is attached to your wrist.

Fitbit Alta HR application

The Fitbit brand app is still fun to use. Clear and precise, it will guide you through the installation of the product and its configuration. The steps are always the same: choice of the model to configure, then creation or connection of your account, and finally fitting in Bluetooth with the Fitbit Alta HR (which launches automatically).

During the Bluetooth search for your device, the application shows you how to charge it using the cable provided in the box. To complete the fitting, you will need to enter the application a four-digit code that appear on the Fitbit Alta HR screen.

After fitting, you can start using the Fitbit Alta HR directly. The app will allow you to manage a lot of things like your training history, your weight, your hydration, and even your meals. As we know, nutrition is essential for a truly effective sport.

Fitbit therefore seems to wish transform your application into a real platform for managing your sports life. Rather than making it yet another platform of graphics linked to a single bracelet.

Using the Fitbit Alta HR

Big good point, your activity is read continuously and thus allows you to follow your heart rate or number of steps taken live on the bracelet, without having to start a sports session.

This is however possible via the application. From the main menu, the user can easily launch a sports session, of which he will choose the type (fitness, running, etc.). Once the session has started, you will be able to see the progress of your progress on your smartphone. This will be the only way to have GPS tracking because the Fitbit Alta HR did not have one.

Another shortcoming is that the device is not waterproof. Even just taking a shower with it is strongly discouraged. This is very strange because it is a feature that is now found on a very large majority of products of this type. A surprising choice on the part of Fitbit, especially since this disqualifies the entry bracelet for swimmers, which are however one of the main targets of this kind of products after runners and fitness enthusiasts.

The device is also capable of tracking the user's sleep. Indeed, with its accelerometer and its cardiac sensor, the bracelet brings together all the tools to precisely follow the wearer's sleep cycles.

By pairing the product with his smartphone, it is possible to be notified, via the bracelet, of any SMS, call, or event on the calendar via an alarm or a vibration. As said above, the screen is too small to have any interaction with these notifications, but the vibration alarm is very useful; especially if you're the type to keep your laptop silent.

Regarding autonomy, count a week with full use. That is to say normal use, because the cardiac sensor is always on. To recharge it, it will take you about two hours: the ratio is therefore very positive.

The Fitbit Alta HR facing the competition

As you would expect from the market leader in fitness smart health connected wristbands, the best competitors of the Fitbit Alta HR are none other than the other Fitbit products. The one that immediately comes to mind is the Charge 2. The latter is supposed to be the top basket of the brand's bracelets, but today only ten euros separate the latter from the Fitbit Alta HR.

The Fitbit Charge 2 still offers specific sports exercises as well as breathing exercises, which greatly widens its useful spectrum, where the Fitbit Alta HR looks more limited when used.

The difference is mainly felt in the size and usefulness of the screen which has nothing to do between the two products. The one in Charge 2 is larger, displays more information and even allows you to follow its direction on the wrist by connecting to the GPS of his smartphone.

However, the Fitbit Alta HR is much smaller, discreet and stylish. In addition, his sleep tracking is improved. Everyone is free to choose the model that best suits them.

For brands other than Fitbit, we obviously think of Garmin Vivosmart HR which is on the same price range as the bracelet tested here. The Garmin model generally has the same functionality as the Fitbit Alta HR.

However, there are differences: The Garmin Vivosmart HR sends you notifications for mails in addition to SMS and calls, and is able to offer you a daily activity rate to do based on your previous results.

Well

Design and Ergonomics : The look is very discreet from a distance, but very well finished when you look at it more closely.

Application : The application works well and is very important for GPS, for example.

features : Features are all expected.

use : Very simple to install and use, no problem on that side. On the other hand, there are only a few new features.

Quality / Price ratio : The Fitbit Alta Hr is a good product. However, it is difficult to see what place it has in the Fitbit range when you see that the Charge, which is supposed to be superior to it, only costs € 10 more. Everyone will choose the one that suits them best according to their personal needs, because in the end, the differences between the two have been greatly reduced.
