Review report: SOS emergency call from Intertechno

Help from family members

Since her three children live and work relatively close to my grandma, we started looking for a solution that would directly alert family members in an emergency. The advantage of such a solution is, among other things, that no external service provider, such as an emergency call center with affiliated emergency services, has to be paid, i.e. there are no monthly fixed costs. It was important to us that the system was safe and flexible on the one hand and that the transmitter was waterproof on the other. Because the risk of falling in the bathtub is high. In our opinion, a bracelet with an emergency button that has to be removed before taking a shower only serves its purpose to a limited extent. This last criterion narrowed the selection quite considerably, since many emergency call systems are not watertight.

First impression: positive

We were pleasantly surprised at how quickly and easily the SOS emergency call can be installed and operated: The device has two voice channels, each of which is assigned a phone number and a color (red / blue). At the start of commissioning, each channel is discussed with a message lasting up to 30 seconds. If an emergency call button is pressed, the SOS emergency call dials the stored number that corresponds to the color of the pressed emergency call button and plays the corresponding voice message as soon as the call is answered. Who is called depends on the color of the emergency button. When my grandma presses a red button, my mother's cell phone rings. However, if she presses a blue button, my uncle will be alerted. Up to six emergency call buttons can be used or distributed in the apartment for each SOS emergency call device (e.g. one emergency call button attached to the wrist strap supplied and five more installed in all rooms of the apartment and in the hallway).

The SOS emergency call works with any SIM card, whereby we decided on the prepaid SIM card from Aldi Talk. This costs a one-time fee of 12.99 euros, of which 10 euros are starting credits. As long as the credit is topped up at least every 365 days, the SIM card will not be deactivated.

Review verdict: It's worth it

Of course, we first tested the system extensively and found that everything worked perfectly. A little hint on the side: It is important that you do not use up all your starting credit in the first euphoria. Grandma has been wearing an emergency button on her wrist for two weeks now, and additional emergency buttons are attached to all critical points in case she shouldn't wear the bracelet. Since the buttons are waterproof, we were also able to install one of them in the bathtub area.

Fortunately, the SOS emergency call has never been used until now (except when testing), but everyone involved now feels much more secure – for this reason alone, it was worth the purchase in my opinion.
