Review: Skagen Hagen smart health connected – stylish hybrid smartwatch

Those who are fed up with having to charge their smartwatches every day will find an interesting alternative in the hybrid watches from the Fossil Group. We have had the opportunity the last few days Skagen Hagen smart health connected to try and Review.

Skagen Hagen smart health connected: design

We really like the visual appearance. In addition to the Fossil Q Grant and the Emporio Armani smart health connected, the Hagen smart health connected by Skagen looks very modern: clear lines and no-frills design. The colors and lettering on the dial are subtle and go well with the silver stainless steel case. The clasp and the brown leather strap of our model integrate perfectly into the appearance.

Despite the modern exterior: a screen, pulse sensor or USB port are not available. Only the lack of a crown indicates the smart interior of the watch. The Hagen smart health connected otherwise looks like a classic analog wristwatch.

The case has a diameter of 42 millimeters and a height of 11 millimeters. The bracelet has a practical quick-release fastener – the strap can be easily replaced without additional tools.

Skagen Hagen smart health connected: equipment

The Hagen smart health connected is waterproof; but only after ATM 3. Washing the hands survives the watch without any problems; However, the smart health connected is not suitable for the pool or even a dive.

The range of functions of the hybrid watches cannot compete with that of a purebred smartwatch, such as the Huawei Watch 2 (Review report), but the added value compared to an analog watch is considerable. Pedometer, sleep tracker, alarm clock, notification function, music control and remote camera trigger for the paired smartphone are only part of the possibilities. The watch can also show the progress of the fitness goal or a second time zone.

By omitting an energy-hungry monitoring, the displays are reduced to a minimum and work based on the analog hands, the vibration alarm and the small additional display. The implementation was successful – you quickly got used to it.

Due to the low energy consumption compared to a display clock, the smart health connected does not have to be charged every day. The built-in button cell (CR2430) lasts about six months, according to the manufacturer. The battery is replaced by the user himself; The cost of a new button cell is around six euros.

What bothers us at Skagen is the lack of feedback for the goal-achievement button. You can only see whether you pressed or not within the app. There is no feedback, for example due to vibration.

Skagen Hagen smart health connected: Skagen app

As with the other hybrid watches from the Fossil Group, you need a free app for operation Android or iOS. Unfortunately, the Skagen app also requires compulsory registration. We find that extremely unfortunate: In our opinion, an optional registration would have been enough.

In order to be able to make a reasonable evaluation of the fitness data, we have to enter our age, gender, height and a personal step goal at the beginning. Pairing the watch and smartphone with activated Bluetooth is straightforward. Immediately after connecting, the time and date and all personal settings are synchronized. We can also load the latest firmware directly onto the watch. This also works quickly and easily.

Apart from the visual implementation, the apps of the hybrid watches tested so far are very similar. The three tabs are on the main screen sleep, activity and aims. You switch between daily, weekly and monthly overviews with your finger. If you want, you can make the collected information available to other fitness apps.

The remaining functions such as notifications, alarms, second time zone or control commands for the smartphone can be found in the menu. As with the Q-Grant, the three buttons can be assigned completely freely. For example, we press the middle button to switch between the second time zone, date and wake-up time.

Skagen Hagen smart health connected: practical Review

The alarm function is pleasantly implemented. Instead of a shrill ringing of the cell phone, we are alarmed by a subtle vibration on the wrist. We set the activation and wake-up time in the app. This type of alarm is not really suitable for deep sleepers; The vibration alarm is ideal for reminders during the day.

The notifications also work for Hagen smart health connected for six previously defined contacts. In practice, however, we only tested the function briefly: on the one hand, you automatically look at your smartphone as soon as you receive a message, and on the other hand, the frequent vibrations are detrimental to the battery life.

The music control, smartphone search and the remote trigger for the camera are super practical and are therefore used intensively by us.

Skagen Hagen smart health connected: buy?

We really like the hybrid smartwatches because of their added value compared to an analog watch. The main difference between the models tested so far is primarily the design. And we particularly like that at Skagen – but of course it's a matter of taste. But Skagen has also really implemented the app. Above all, the fact that all functions and all buttons are freely assignable is a real plus point compared to the Armani model. The price of less than 200 euros is absolutely fair for such a high quality watch.

For those who want more than just an analog watch but no mini-computer on their wrists, the hybrid smartwatch is a good solution. Even those who otherwise use a fitness wristband without their own pulse sensor will find the Skagen Hagen smart health connected a very chic alternative for everyday use.
