Ringing ears or buzz : take antioxidants

Double-blind, placebo-controlled study shows encouraging results against tinnitus

If you often or constantly have ringing or buzzing ears, you know how unbearable life becomes.

black and white headphones on white table

For some it's the noise of a hammer on an anvil, for others it's the noise of a train or a constant chainsaw.

These noises drown out the sounds, the voices around you, so much so that you struggle to communicate and concentrate.

But above all, you are constantly disturbed, including in the absolute silence of your room.

Make some noise in your room to “drown out the noises in your ears!”

The only strategy for better sleep is to constantly make noise in your room to “cover up” your tinnitus!!

In other words, make a real noise to drown out the sounds coming from your eardrums. issues with the husband, hello.

According to a 2013 study, tinnitus patients frequently stay awake during stages 3 and 4 of sleep as well as REM sleep. Since adolescents are denied these crucial windows of opportunity to regenerate, this has an impact on their attitude, their capacity to learn, and their focus throughout the day.

Optimistic findings from a scientific study on tinnitus

We therefore read the findings of a nutrition study against tinnitus, published in November 2019 in the journal Nutrients, with excitement and relief.

This study involved only thirty-five people but it was carried out with great rigor, following the strictest criteria of serious medical research: a randomized double-blind study against placebo for three months.

As a reminder, randomized means that the patients were drawn at random to receive either the treatment (natural products that I describe below), or a placebo, that is to say a product having all the appearance treatment, but containing no active ingredient.

“Double-blind” means that neither the patients nor the doctors who prescribed the treatment and observed the results knew who was taking what. This is to prevent them from being influenced.

The result was that people who received the natural treatment experienced a significant drop in the loudness of their tinnitus, as well as the sound level needed to mask it.

The natural treatment for tinnitus

This natural treatment consisted of a set of targeted nutritional supplements:

once a day: 150 mg of vitamin C, 10 mg of vitamin B6, 200 micrograms of folic acid (vitamin B9), 150 micrograms of biotin (vitamin B8) and 25 mg for the other vitamins of group B; 50 mg of magnesium, a grape seed extract with strong antioxidant action (OPC);

twice a day: 300 mg of alpha-lipoic acid, also a very antioxidant substance.

The cells of the “snail” (part of the inner ear which is used for hearing) are indeed damaged by free radicals. This explains why they “create” noises that do not exist. People who suffer from tinnitus have higher than normal measures of oxidative stress.

Free radicals can be fought by antioxidants. Hence the logic of taking antioxidants in the form of nutritional supplements to reduce tinnitus.

drink coffee

The results of this study are consistent with those of a large observational study that concluded that people who drink three cups of coffee a day have less tinnitus than others.

This study was published in 2014 in the American Journal of Medicine. It involved approximately 65,000 women followed for 18 years.

This effect could be linked to the richness of coffee in antioxidants. Coffee is indeed our greatest source of antioxidants, of all commonly consumed foods.

Don't forget the ginkgo biloba

Conventional medicine treats tinnitus with a drug, pentoxifylline, which dilates the blood vessels and therefore improves the irrigation of the inner ear.

But a plant, or more specifically a tree, exists in nature that thins the blood and dilates the blood vessels to increase the blood supply.

Ginkgo biloba is this.

Ginkgo leaves cannot be consumed directly because the active components are not concentrated enough. Since there are many different types of extracts available, you must take one.

In contrast to pentoxifylline, a study focuses on the highly concentrated extract Gingko Biloba EGb761, which contains as many active molecules per gram as 50 grams of leaf.

Covering 197 patients for 12 weeks, she concluded that the gingko extract was as effective as the drug.

My good thoughts are with you

Hopefully, if you suffer from tinnitus, this information can help alleviate your ailments.

In my very close circle, a person who suffered from tinnitus for a long time triggered “Ménière’s disease”, that is to say horrible attacks of vertigo due to the damaged inner ear.

It is absolutely terrible. The person no longer knows where the floor or the ceiling is, which revolve around them, even when they close their eyes. She can only move by crawling, and can no longer eat anything due to seasickness.

The crises can last for weeks, causing significant weight loss but above all despairing suffering, which then makes you live in constant fear of a new crisis (there are several crises a year...).

If you can delay the onset of the disease by taking natural treatments now, you will say thank you one day.
