Robots for good, a ray of sunshine for hospitalized children

The Wevolver team is trying to achieve a great project: allow a hospitalized child who cannot move to visit a zoo. “Robots for good” is a unique concept resulting from the mixture of three technologies in full expansion, we will explain to you.

InMoov robot in the spotlight

InMoov was the first robot to be made from a 3D printer, today many robots can be created and assembled at health home (like this little open-source robot PLEN2). This is one of the fundamental points of the project, a simple creation and a fast and possible assembly by many. The idea is to encourage other robotics artisans to launch their own “Robots for good”. All the files to build your own InMoov robot will be available for free, which means you can join the project if you feel like it.

The main one: virtual reality and Leap Motion

This is where the whole “magic” of the idea is found, equipped with a VR headset (most certainly the oculus rift) and a Leap Motion module, this machine should be incredibly easy to use. This program will allow children hospitalized to explore the outside world as if it were there with their own bodies. Above all, it will offer a unique experience in the London zoo, or these little ones (and big ones) will be able to rwatch, listen and enjoy like everyone else presents.

The OpenWheels Segway

This invention was born thanks to sir Dean Kamen, who once noted on the street that a man in a wheelchair had difficulty climbing the sidewalk. The first model called iBot Mobility System, the use of which was exclusively reserved for people with reduced mobility, was marketed in 2001. Since then a second version was introduced, but this time for people with complete mobility. OpenWheels Segway (see here for another smart health connected version) will therefore be the means of movement for our little robot. Being able to reach 15 km / h, equipped with two motors with a power of 250W and with a relatively low consumption, this device seems to be the ideal means of locomotion for Robots for good.

Latest concept of the project? Absolutely everyone can participate and offer their help and their genius, just register on their site ! So if you have an idea, even one that seems out of place, tell yourself that it could serve the well-being and happiness of certain children.
