Rotofarm – A surprising smart health connected indoor garden

Melbourne-based biotechnology startup Bace started gardening all year round with Rotofarm. Growing your own vegetables does not necessarily mean getting your hands dirty. We have seen a number of indoor gardening devices over the years, the most recent being LG's.

The Rotofarm concept actually appeared online last year. It is now available for pre-order on Indiegogo. The device looks like a large table lamp fused with a Dyson fan without blades. The company announces a crop area of 1.58 meters. A real feat.

As with the OGarden Smart, pre-sowing pods are inserted in the lower part of the housing. The device fills the tank with water and plant food. The Rotofarm plugs into the power grid and the housing slowly rotates around an integrated amplified spectrum LED light tube.

He completes a full revolution every hour. The seed pods available include lettuce, kale, wheatgrass, mint, chives, edible flowers and more.

Indoor gardens can monitoring and control the installation via an application running on a smartphone. They can set wrong times for sunrise and sunset, view water and nutrient levels. If you are a little embarrassed by this glowing LED, an optional acrylic cover is also available. A very good idea !

The system uses 95% less water than if the crops were in the ground. Overall, it will take you less than 5 minutes a week to take care of your vegetable, herb and micro-crop crops throughout the year. The device takes care of everything else automatically.

Note that the Rotofarm project has already reached its funding objective on Indiegogo. If you want one, you will need to spend around 440 dollars.
