Ruggie, the alarm mat that will get you out of bed

If you find your alarm clock to be particularly ineffective in getting you out of bed, this article is for you. In late 2016, Ruggie should appear, the first awakening in the form of … carpets. An idea that comes from Canada and that only rings when the user puts both feet on it.

"Five more minutes"

One of the biggest evils of our time is the Snooze button on our alarm clocks. You see, the one who lets you beg for "five more minutes" of extra sleep, and who only wakes us up halfway? Some people show ingenuity by equipping themselves with olfactory alarm clocks or robots that jump from the bedside table, but we must admit that there should be simpler.

It is surely on the basis of this premise that Ruggie , originally from Vancouver, invented the first carpet to act as an alarm clock. The goal : force the sleeper to get out of bed to put both feet on the carpet. Only in this way can he turn off the alarm he has chosen to wake up. To know that Ruggie has a library of several natural sounds on which to wake up (bird songs, waterfall …) and that it is also possible to select the music of your choice.

Beware of cheaters: protruding one foot to put it on the device will not work. To silence him, you will have to prove that you are up, and stand on both feet for several seconds. At least we cannot say that it is not effective.

Ruggie, the smart health connected carpet that makes you feel good

The particularity of Ruggie is not limited to the fact that it is a carpet. Once the alarm is off, this alarm clock smart health connected reward the user with an optimistic and encouraging message. To start the day by listening to a manly voice telling us to screw everything up will probably be more motivating than getting up for 20 minutes (expert say).

The messages are currently only available in English, but knowing that Ruggie has already planned to offer new ones for download, it is not not excluded that French versions arrive shortly after marketing the product. All this will be set up via a smartphone app (on which we have no more details) since the Ruggie's interface is limited to a few basic buttons: "Mode," Left "," Right "," Menu "and" On / Off ".

This smart health connected mat / alarm clock should be marketed at the end of 2016. If the final price is estimated at $ 99 (€ 91), Ruggie is already available for pre-order for some $ 59 (i.e. 54 €) on the Kickstarter page of the product.
