Safilo will unveil its smart health connected sunglasses at CES 2017
Safilo Group, which manufactures glasses and sunglasses for renowned brands like Dior, Fendi, Marc Jacobs & Hugo Boss, will unveil its smart health connected glasses at the next CES 2017 in January.
Safilo hasn't released any photos to the press yet, but we do know that these smart health connected glasses will not have an augmented reality display or a camera like the Snapchat Spectacles glasses.
Instead, the brand will measure the wearer's brainwaves using five EEG sensors on the frames and the bridge of the glasses. The glasses will also offer exercises to wearers. They can for example discover meditation exercises, to combat stress, on the dedicated application. If this sounds familiar to you, it's probably because for the past year, Safilo has been working with InterAxon, which has made the famous Muse headband.
To give you an example, Smith's smart glasses will have a battery that can run on a single charge for a week. These glasses will weigh 36 grams and will be available in a range of sunglasses before launching prescription glasses. The release is scheduled for summer 2017.
Safilo CEO Luisa Delgado tells us a little bit about her product: "Consumers don't have to make sacrifices in eyewear design to get the technology. The brand has also indicated that its licensed designer brands will soon be offering this technology; among these brands we have Gucci, Tommy Hilfiger, Céline, Kate Spade and Givenchy. Interestingly, many of these houses already offer a smartwatch or other smart health smart health connected object.
With this announcement, we understand that this year, smart health connected innovations will invade the small world of fashion. Between clothing and accessories, it seems that brands want to add many features to their products. This trend will most certainly be visible at the next CES.
