Samsung and Samsonite work on a smart health connected suitcase
Samsung and Samsonite are working on a smart health connected suitcase. According to the DailyMail, the two brands have joined forces to create a new generation of smart suitcases.
The smart health connected suitcase should be geo-locatable thanks to its GPS, could issue notifications when it is unloaded from the plane or when it arrives on the carpet allowing to recover them. According to Samsonite's chief executive, Ramesh Tainwala, this "smart health connected baggage will be able to communicate with you, but it must be able to do more than just give its location." "
For the more paranoid of us, these bags can also send alerts when they are open or when you are more than a few meters away. The two brands have given no indication of a marketing date, but the idea has already been materialized by other companies. For example, last year I showed you BlueSmart smart health connected luggage during their fundraising campaign on Indiegogo or the Pluggage smart suitcase.
To date, Samsonite is also working on a concept of self-propelled luggage that follows its owner. However, the technology used is currently too bulky and the motors used are too heavy; they weigh 20 kg and take up a third of the space available in luggage.
Another, more feasible concept would be the creation of smart bags that do not require airport check-in. Chips inside this baggage could give information on their weight and destination. A good way to avoid queuing at check-in counters. To date, Emirates and Lufthansa are working on this concept.
