After postponing the launch of its first collapsible smartphone in June, Samsung announces that it will finally be available in France from 18 September.
As a reminder, Galaxy Fold was formalized at the beginning of the year. But because of a screen problem discovered by journalists, the Korean giant has decided to postpone the launch that was to be done a few months ago.
The Fold was to position Samsung as the number one in mobile innovation. But finally, the launch flop put the builder in a very embarrassing situation.
In any case, after identifying the design flaws that made the foldable display very fragile, Samsung improved its model and conducted more tests. Today, the company is finally ready to market this device.
In France, Samsung is working with Boulanger, Bouygues Telecom, Darty, Fnac, Orange and SFR. As a result, the public will be able to discover the foldable smartphone in some stores of these partners, in addition to Samsung stores.
The device will be sold with Galaxy Buds, a case, and will also come with a Samsung Care + warranty.
A hybrid smartphone / tablet
After the launch of the Galaxy Fold, other brands should embark on this type of device. Huawei has already introduced its Mate X and Xiaomi has a foldable smartphone that folds in three in the pipes.
The advantage of foldable smartphones and that when the device is folded, it can be used as a smartphone. But when you unfold, you get a larger screen area to work like on a tablet.
For example, when unfolding the Galaxy Fold, you can enjoy a widescreen of 7.3 inches. And of course, Samsung's foldable smartphone offers a very generous data sheet (SoC Snapdragon 855, 12 GB RAM, etc.). Regarding the software part, it has been adapted to the particularities of the model.
