Samsung QuickDrive WW10M86GNOA: Review, price and specification – Washing machine

Is it still necessary to present the Samsung Quickdrive range and its drum in two parts which allows the bottom and the walls to rotate in different directions? This technology must reduce the cycle time by reinforcing the mechanical action of the laundry brewing. The WW10M86GNOA also benefits from the AddWash hatch, very recognizable on the door, which allows you to add small pieces of laundry when the program has started, without having to empty the tank. This 10 kg capacity model emphasizes its premium side with a maximum spin speed of 1600 rpm while the vast majority of the other washing machines in our comparison caps at 1400 rpm. Launched at € 1,649, it justifies its price by the presence of steam functions, an automatic dosing system for detergents and connectivity to a smartphone equipped with the Smartthings application, available on iOS and Android.

Despite very standard dimensions, the WW10M86GNOA washing machine seems more massive than the others because of its imposing over-porthole which eats a good part of the facade. Above, there is a control panel, coated with a brushed stainless steel color coating of the most beautiful effect, completely devoid of screen. When it is switched on, the blue light-emitting diodes light up and, by superimposition on the control panel, give information relating to the water temperature or the duration of the cycle, for example.

We start programming by selecting the basic cycle (cotton, synthetic, delicate …) using the large metal wheel placed in the center of the control panel. Very pleasant to use, it also uses LEDs to indicate which program is chosen. Please note, it is thanks to this that the steam functions are activated, by selecting one of the only two cycles provided for this purpose (sheets and anti-allergens). We regret that Samsung is a little cautious about this when other manufacturers offer to use steam to deodorize or smooth out clothes.

The setting continues with the change of the water temperature or the spin speed using the sensitive buttons. As the buttons are fully integrated into the stainless steel strip – they do not stand out with a different color or outline – it is sometimes difficult to know what modifications can be made; this is the case, for example, of the delayed start. Other than that, you can get everything under control quickly.

However, the features offered are numerous. In addition to the water temperature, the spin speed and the delayed start, it is also possible to adjust the quantity of products dispensed by the automatic dosing system, activate a stain or intensive washing option, and provide a prewash. , but also to modify the rinse level. It is an understatement to say that Korean takes this aspect of the cycle very seriously, because five intensities are offered; the vast majority of washing machines are satisfied with a simple "rinse +" option.

The QuickDrive WW10M86GNOA has Wi-Fi connectivity to a smartphone equipped with the SmartThings app: Samsung has some experience in this area and the washing machine turns out to be quite simple to pair: the app is not essential , but brings an appreciable advantage in daily use. Once the process is complete, the app mainly serves as a remote control panel, thanks to which you can set a cycle without leaving your chair. Neophytes will appreciate the washing assistant which suggests a program according to the type of garment, the colors and the level of dirt determined by the user; these parameters will be sent to the washing machine if necessary, of course, which will avoid having to program it yourself.

We also find the traditional reports on the consumption of water or electricity. Good point, an automatic tool tests the washing machine to establish a diagnosis. Alerts are sent to warn it is time to clean the drum. Finally, as was already the case with the QuickDrive WW90M645OPW, notifications at key moments in the cycle are sent to the user; before the first rinse, before the last and before spinning. So you can take advantage of the excellent rinsing benefits of this model, for example, by inserting delicates washed by hand by the AddWash flap at the start of a rinsing phase.

In this regard, note that this feature is still as easy to use and that it obeys the same rules as before. To be able to open the hatch, the water temperature must not be too high and the washing machine must not be in the spin phase.

The main faults of the WW10M86GNOA appear when you want to fill (or empty) the drum. First of all, the door is blocked as soon as the washing machine is switched off. It must therefore be switched on to be able to open the door. This does not seem like anything, but even after several uses, it is not uncommon to forget this peculiarity and to pester by having to turn on the device to use the door. In addition, when the door is open, the WW10M86GNOA quickly beeps, which quickly becomes horrifying. We can obviously turn off the washing machine completely to stop this noise, but it is better to turn it back on so that we can program it later.

Fortunately, the 70-liter drum is large enough to easily accommodate 8 kg of laundry, or 80% of the recommended maximum load (10 kg).

The detergent dispenser, despite its automatic functions, is easy to remove from its housing for cleaning. What does not spoil anything, we fill the detergent or softener tanks as easily as the compartment used for a single cycle.

Water and electricity consumption

The water requirements of the QuickDrive WW10M86GNOA should have been better contained.

In fact, whatever the program chosen, it is more water-consuming than the average of the other washing machines in our comparison. The only exception concerns the normal cotton cycle loaded with 3 kg of cotton, but the difference is insignificant: 14.9 l / kg of laundry for this model, 15.1 l / kg of laundry on average. And if there are sometimes minimal differences (only 1.9 l / kg of laundry in addition to the fast cotton cycle loaded with 3 kg of laundry from the Quickdrive), certain programs of our washing machine of the day prove to be much more greedy than the average.

This is the case in particular of the household linen cycle at 60 ° C of the WW10M86GNOA which gobbles 30.8 l / kg of linen against only 18 l / kg of linen on average on the other devices in our comparison.

The picture is roughly similar for energy needs.

The graphs show that the QuickDrive WW10M86GNOA has a tendency to consume more electricity than the competition, and this, in remarkable proportions. This is the case for example for the fast cotton cycle (3 kg) which needs almost twice as much resources on this model as on average to reach its end: 0.65 kWh against 0.37 kWh.

The normal cotton cycle of the Quickdrive, loaded at 80% of maximum capacity, is also voracious (0.76 kWh against 0.53 kWh on average) and a lower load does not change much (0.52 kWh against 0.43 kWh). The eco-cotton program (0.31 kWh) and the express cycle (0.04 kWh) limit the damage a little; but as we have seen, the latter is completely useless for removing stubborn stains.

Without being exceptional, the washing performance of the QuickDrive WW10M86GNOA is honorable.

The lipstick stain does not go away, but no washing machine so far has achieved this feat. We note that the traces of carbon (whether in powder or mixed with water) also resist him as well as the drop of blood; these are also difficult to treat dirt. The stain of wine is well blured but still visible, like that of coffee. The rest of our control soiling is removed.

Very surprisingly, it is the cotton cycle at 30 ° C loaded at 80% of the maximum capacity that proves to be the most effective, even before the household linen program whose water temperature is higher (60 ° C) should however guarantee better washing performance. The difference between the two is slight, however, and both are quite effective. The two programs loaded with 3 kg of cotton (classic and fast version) fulfill their mission without sparking.

The QuickDrive WW10M86GNOA does not really shine by its spin efficiency. Admittedly, it manages to remove enough water from the textile fibers so as not to extend the drying time over the wire excessively, but we expected better from a model so the spin speed of 1600 rpm min is above average (1,400 rpm).

As always with Samsung, the rinsing performance of the QuickDrive is already quite satisfactory when the basic settings are applied: the rinsing level is then set to 2. By changing it to 5, you get results that are simply excellent, at price of an increased water consumption however (20 l / kg of linen against 15.3 l / kg of linen).

People with skin very sensitive to detergent residues can entrust their laundry to WW10M86GNOA without a priori.

The QuickDrive WW10M86GNOA knows how to be discreet. In fact, during washing, the noise level barely reaches 39 dB (A). And during the spin, we do not exceed the noise caused by a normal conversation (estimated at 60 dB (A)); our sound level meter shows 59 dB (A) only. These excellent acoustic performances make the WW10M86GNOA one of the quietest models in our comparison.

The very quiet QuickDrive WW10M86GNOA is a little disappointment. Its muscular technical sheet does not fulfill its promises. Steam, for example, seems to us to be underused, and despite a maximum drum speed of 1600 rpm, the clothes are not much more wrung out than by less well-equipped washing machines. We also regret consumption of water and poorly contained energy. However, not everything is to be thrown away and Samsung is once again showing us its expertise in the field of laundry rinsing and connectivity.
