Samsung SmartSuit – A suit for skaters

The Korean giant has created Samsung SmartSuit, a smart garment capable of providing speed skaters with training information. This is a significant advantage in training for the next Winter Olympics in South Korea.

Simply put, the Samsung SmartSuit has five sensors that provide a real-time view of the wearer's body position on the trainer's smartphone; with millimeter-accurate measurements allowing teams to use this data to modify training.

A rather interesting element for the sportsman and his trainer. Thanks to the Samsung SmartSuit, they don't have to wait until the end of training to debrief. For example, the coach can send vibrations to the wrist of the suit to indicate that the position needs to be changed. This buzz could, for example, mean that the skater must get up. A vibration could also mean that the skater needs to squat a little more.

But beware, these SmartSuits are only intended to be used during training. They will of course be banned during the next Olympic Winter Games; which will kick off next month in Pyeongchang, South Korea. In addition, as each SmartSuit is adapted to a specific athlete, it is impossible to interchange this type of equipment.

On the other hand, it is quite likely that these data will be revealed to the public during retransmissions of events from the Olympic Games, in order to allow viewers to better understand the performance of each athlete and what differentiates them. Which would obviously be a wonderful advertisement for Samsung.

As you know, over the years, Samsung has earned a reputation as one of the most experimental tech giants. It is clear that he once again does honor to his reputation! It's not impossible that I will watch some speed skating events during the next Olympic Games.
