How it works ?

The UNICEF Kid Power program revolves around an activity tracker and its mobile app. It motivates children to achieve various fitness goals, but also to learn new cultures. These actions save food packages that will save lives. Because yes, for its part, UNICEF then provides families with severely malnourished children with food, mainly in developing countries.

The partnership is an extension of a successful pilot program in three cities selected earlier this year. About 12,000 students in Boston, Dallas and New York walked more than 500,000 miles in March 2015, providing 188,850 food packages for 1,259 malnourished children. Now the program will go beyond schools, with Target as the exclusive distributor for activity trackers, which will be sold online at a price of $ 39.99 as of November 29 and in stores from 2016. Disney will also be a partner, offering bands of Star Wars customizations.

50,000,000 undernourished children

The initial idea of UNICEF Kid Power starts from an observation: 1 in 4 children in the United States is not active enough, while 1 in 4 children is undernourished worldwide. About 50 million malnourished children worldwide, including 16 million, who suffer from the deadliest form.

“We will continue to do it in schools, because we know the impact of doing it in a classroom environment, "Said Caryl Stern, President and CEO of the United States Fund for UNICEF. "But we also want it to be a family experience. We want mom and dad to have the opportunity to have the right technology and instill in their children that feeling of being active and saving lives. Obviously, I’m talking to you as President and CEO of the United States Fund for UNICEF, but first and foremost, I’m a mom, continued Stern. I cannot imagine the grief of being a mom who cannot feed her children … In 2015, we should be able to make sure that all children get a meal."

For any purchase of a UNICEF Kid Power bracelet between October 13, 2015 and December 31, 2016, Target will donate $ 10 to the United States Fund for UNICEF. We are waiting for such an initiative in France!
