sending identifiers to pharmacies to connect to the verification system

Provided by European Directive 2011/62 / EU on falsified medicines, the serialization system requires since February 9, 2019 manufacturers to provide certain products with security devices to allow verification of their integrity and authenticity, with the implementation of a unique identifier on each box, we recall.
A European database and national directories containing the unique identifiers must allow actors in the pharmaceutical chain to connect via their usual software to verify the authenticity of the information entered on the product, and deactivate the serial number. Each box must therefore be scanned by pharmacists before dispensing to patients.
While pharmaceutical laboratories, wholesaler-distributors and hospital pharmacies began in 2019 to access the various databases to load or verify the serial numbers of medicines, no French pharmacy was yet smart health connected to the authentication system at the end of 2019.
In a press release issued on January 2, France MVO warned of sending a letter to allow them to connect to the national directory, entitled France MVS (Medicines Verification System), via a connector that it validated with the National Council of the Order of Pharmacists (Cnop).
This connector was the subject of a contract signed in December 2019 between Cnop, France MVO and the IT companies Docaposte (subsidiary of the La Poste group) and Arvato, who developed it.
It makes it possible to use the certificates of health professional cards (CPS) already used by the software of pharmacies, and "guarantees a connection in pseudonymized mode for recording connections", underlined France MVO.
After receiving the letter, pharmacies can enter their unique identifier on an online subscription site.
"Once this step has been completed, you just need to get in touch with your software publisher to find out how to update your business software with the version compatible with France MVS," said France MVO for the attention of the officials. .
The structure that oversees serialization has also created a specific newsletter to inform pharmacies of the implementation of the reform and the next steps to follow to comply with it. Pharmacists can register on his site.
At the end of November, the unique identifiers of approximately 1 million boxes of medicines were deactivated each week in France, mainly by pharmacies for indoor use (PUI) or for products intended for export, according to a statement sent to TICsanté by a spokesperson for France MVO.
