Sensimed Triggerfish, smart health connected lenses!

[ad_1]

A Swiss start-up named Sensimed has developed a contact lens dedicated to fight against glaucoma, one of the main causes of blindness that would affect at least one million French.

Intended to be used by adults of over 22 years, this medical device has just been approved by the FDA (Food & Drug Administration in the US) and uses a soft silicone lens, including a microprocessor, and can be used 24h in a row. Convenient and non-invasive, it must nevertheless be set up and uninstalled by a professional … It will be necessary to have a doctor at health home every 24 hours!

When a patient wears Triggerfish, these are responsible for measuring the intraocular pressure changes which are then transmitted over a wireless connection to a antenna located not far from the eye. The latter then sends them to a big recorder worn as a bag by the patient … Not very convenient in fact. The data can then be viewed on a conventional mobile device through Bluetooth.

Why is it great? And indeed, hypertension of the eye, which is one of the signs of worsening glaucoma, can only be measured by ophthalmologists equipped with a tonometer. With this sensor, it will now be possible to measure this parameter in permanence – even at night – and therefore to report a potential emergency case as soon as it is detected.

When this product is available (it has also been approved in Europe), Sensimed will sign a big breakthrough in smart health connected health. Moreover, Google X also works on smart health connected lenses … Which would be powered by solar energy.
