shattering entrance into smart health connected objects

Under Armor announced at CES 2015 a major partnership with HTC. Today, we find out what it is: the two collaborated on a complete fitness ecosystem, which includes a smart health connected bracelet, a smart health connected scale, a heart rate sensor, wireless earbuds, smart health connected shoes and more. a new Record application. A "Healthbox" package includes the first three products. Just that !

The American equipment manufacturer had already had a gigantic booth last year, on which it proudly displayed the various fitness applications it has acquired over the months (MyFitnessPal remaining the absolute record). This time, Under Armor will complete it with a full suite of smart health connected fitness-related gadgets that can compete with competing products currently on the market.

The 'UA Band' is clearly up

The first smart health smart health connected object of the brand is none other than a smart health connected bracelet, called UA Band. Already it is quite competitive, since it offers an integrated heart rate sensor, can distinguish the physical activities practiced automatically, and obviously follows the number of steps, calories and sleep.

On the aesthetic, we find the touch of HTC, which brings the design of the UA Band closer to a Nike Fuelband (which is no longer available) a Jawbone UP3 (after all, Under Armor is a brand that assumes completely his sports side). The colors strongly recall the Mio Fuse (red and black), and the monochrome screen is quite discreet and simple. The range announced for the Under Armor smart health connected bracelet is about a week.

The UA Band may be sold in the Healthbox ($ 400 for the UA Band, Scale and Heart Rate Sensor), or independently for $ 180. It is clearly in the high end of the market, but its characteristics are still quite attractive. Note that the Healthbox is already pre-ordering on the official website of the brand, with deliveries that will take place from 22 January 2016.

A smart health connected scale to compete with Runtastic

Under Armor is the second to unveil a smart health connected scale at CES, after that of Polar. That of Under Armor is smart health connected in Wi-Fi (contrary to that of Polar which uses the Bluetooth) and very slightly remembers the design of the very popular Smart Body Analyzer of Withings – in a little less worked. Once again, we find a touch HTC in the finish (quite masculine). The black and white screen can display weight, body fat, and can distinguish different users automatically. The information is then sent over Wi-Fi on the mobile application Record which displays the evolution over time.

Like the UA Band, the smart health connected scale is marketed either in the Healthbox ($ 400), or independently for a price of $ 180. This is particularly high compared to what is done on the market: the Runtastic Libra ($ 119) or the Withings Smart Body Analyzer WS-50 (€ 149).

Under Armor Balance

A heart rate sensor

Under Armor already had his heart rate monitoring, the Armor39. The brand is now releasing a new version of the product whose design is perhaps a little more successful. In the middle, a small Under Armor logo changes color to show the intensity of the effort of the wearer – which is reminiscent of the color system used by Mio on his bracelets smart health connected. It connects in Bluetooth and is compatible with several mobile applications. The price of the independent heart rate monitoring is $ 80.

Under Armor headphones in partnership with JBL

These new headphones dubbed UA Headphones Wireless are quite classic and adapted to a sport use: resistance to sweat, taste and other bad weather related to the life of an athlete. A declination with an integrated heart rate sensor will be marketed later, for $ 70 more. The classic version of the JBL Under Armor X headphones is also available for $ 180.

SpeedForm Gemini 2 smart health connected shoes

Under Armor already has a great range of shoes. Now he is introducing his Gemini blockbuster into a smart health connected shoe called SpeedForm Gemini 2. The shoe incorporates a series of sensors that can measure the number of steps, distances traveled or the speed of the wearer – which will then be sent to the application Record. The particularity of this "smart health smart health connected object" is that it never needs to be recharged: the shoes work with the energy produced (and the battery is not accessible). The shoes are not part of the Healthbox, and can be purchased from February 29 for $ 150.

The application (Aggregator) Record totally revised

Under Armor also took this year to completely review the aesthetics of its Record application, which aggregates the data recorded by the different mobile fitness apps it has. With the integration of MyFitnessPal, Endomondo or MapMyRun, Under Armor had to offer a version of its application at the height. It seems a lot more with the aggregator that proves to be an alternative to an Apple Health or a Google Fit to a large extent.
