Shot Stats Challenger, a sensor on the tennis string

[ad_1]

Launched on Kickstarter, the Shot Stats Challenger is a small sensor that is placed on the string of a tennis racket. It takes various measures: speeds, strokes, rotation …

During CES 2014, sports equipment manufacturers took the opportunity to announce their latest discoveries in tennis: Sony released their Tennis Sensor, while French Babolat went even further with a fully smart health connected racket, the Babolat Play. Faced with these two giants, 4 tennis enthusiasts challenged themselves to create another alternative, Shot Stats Challenger. The collection page sure Kickstarter already shows $ 48,000 on the meter, with a final goal of $ 75,000 (34 days still).

Unlike the two other sensors mentioned above, the Shot Stats Challenger is hang on the rope racket, as an anti-vibrator. The founders warned that it was also very resistant to impact and bullet impacts. The measurements recorded by the sensor are similar to that of Sony: hitting speed, playing time, number of strokes, ball rotation, racket impact… However, the sensor is distinguished by its small screen which allows the tennis player to see his performance live (be careful not to be distracted, and miss the ball!).

Obviously, this information is also transmitted on theShot Stats mobile app (iOS and Android eventually) via Bluetooth Low Energy. For those who do not have a smartphone, the web version is also available. According to their Kickstarter page, it will also be possible to share performance with other members of the community, in social network mode. If you can get a good overview of his tennis performances, this does not replace a good teacher. Rather, it should be used in a developmental logic, and possibly share your data with your teacher.

For autonomy, they advertise around 4 hours. Reloading will be done by USB.

In terms of price, all “Early-bird” Challenger Shot Stats have been sold. You will therefore have to pay $ 150 to buy the sensor (+ $ 15 outside the US) for delivery in January 2015. The Sony sensor should hit the market again in late 2014.
