Should we be wary of Amazon’s investments in healthcare?
Already in 2018, Amazon had begun its conquest of the health sector with the acquisition of PillPack, renamed Amazon Pharmacy. In 2020, the platform launched Amazon Care, a virtual clinic. It now announces that it wants to acquire One Medical, a primary healthcare provider across the United States. Worth $3.9 billion, the contract worries some observers. Doesn’t this takeover hide an attempt to target Amazon Pharmacy? Indeed, Medical One offers its members transparent access to comprehensive care for an annual subscription of $199. And offers its subscribers a set of resources such as applications or 24/7 access to virtual medical assistance.
