should your smartphone be charged overnight?

We often hear that leaving your laptop plugged into the mains, when it has reached 100% charge, damages the battery. What is it really ?

Most of us recharge portable the night. While a full recharge takes a few hours at most, the phone often stays smart health connected for eight hours or more! However, laptops are equipped with a lithium ion battery, which has the advantage of being recharge quickly, but is damaged when it is subjected to too high a voltage. In addition, an overcharge can overheat the battery and in some cases cause its inflammation, as we saw with Galaxy Note 7 who were taking fire.

To avoid this phenomenon, most manufacturers have however equipped the telephones systems that automatically stop current when the load is full. The problem is that even when not in use, the phone experiences a weak discharge. As soon as drums drops below a certain level, it will reset the load again until it reaches 100%, and so on several times during the night. So many “mini charges” that use the battery prematurely and overheat the phone.

The charger alone also consumes electricity

In addition, the phone is not the only one to consumeenergy. When the battery is 100% charged and the charger stays smart health connected, it continues to absorb electricity. According to Berkeley Lab, a charger thus represents an average power of 3.68 watts when charging and 2.24 watts when it remains smart health connected to the mains while the battery is full. Useless waste of energy.

To increase the duration of battery life, it is recommended to always keep a charge between 30% and 80%, that is to say, not to wait for it to fall completely flat or to charge it to the full.
