Sleep smart health connected with Sense!
Sleeping poorly can have serious consequences for your mood, health and well-being in the short and long term. Today we present to you Sense, a new kid in the jungle of smart health connected objects, which will allow you to get up on the right foot! Hello, based in the bustling and very prolific city of San Francisco, is behind this device that will revolutionize the way we understand our sleep.
A great success on the Kickstarter crowdfunding platform
Launched via a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter in the summer of 2014, the Sense device developed by the company Hello was a resounding success. Sense was solicited by more than 19,000 backers, which allowed the company to raise more than $ 2.4 million, an amount which greatly exceeded the initial objective of $ 100,000 and which will allow Sense to see the updated at the end of 2014.
Hello’s team is made up of talented designers and engineers who together want to build products and services that millions of people can use and love every day. It is with this in mind that the team created Sense: today, when people are more and more smart health connected, information seekers and concerned about their health, no device existed to analyze and understand sleep.
The motto of the creators of Sense "Know more. Sleep better. "Illustrates perfectly the mission they have given themselves: helping people to get to know each other better and to know the world around them through their sleep and thanks to the opportunities given by smart health connected objects.
An autonomous smart health connected device that analyzes your sleep and your bedroom
Sense is the first system which combines an analysis of your behavior and your sleep habits with the environmental data (noise, light, temperature, humidity…) of your bedroom. It was designed to be simple, intuitive and useful. Sense requires no action on your part, it works even while you are asleep.
The device includes 2 elements: Sense, a very design device which arises on your bedside table to collect environmental data and identify possible disturbances, and a small sensor called "Sleep pill" extremely sensitive that discreetly attaches to your pillow, to track your sleep during the night. With Sense, you don't have to wear an uncomfortable device, recharge something or trigger a button, everything is automatic and autonomous. Sense will know when you fall asleep, when you are deeply asleep, when you struggle or when you wake up.
Sense also stands out as a new generation alarm by reinventing the concept of the alarm clock. We know that we all have a natural sleep cycle. A traditional alarm will wake you up at the time you set when you went to bed, regardless of whether you are in the middle of a restful sleep cycle or not. Sense's smart alarm identifies the right time to wake up so that you feel rested and in good shape.
To record all this data, the Sense smart health connected device consists of an ambient light sensor, a high sensitivity microphone, a temperature sensor, a humidity sensor, a large speaker quality, a proximity sensor and a particle sensor. Sense has WiFi and Bluetooth. Sense is powered from a wall outlet with a micro-USB cable and an adapter. The accompanying sleep pill includes a six-axis accelerometer and gyroscope, Bluetooth and a lithium battery.
Data permanently accessible via your smartphone
As soon as you wake up, you can view all the data recorded by Sense and the Sleep pill from the application iPhone or Android from your mobile phone. Sense is, to date, compatible with the most modern smartphones, iPhone (4S or newer), iPod Touch 5G, iPad (3G or newer), Samsung Galaxy S4 and S5.
The application will tell you how well you slept or on the contrary how disturbed your sleep by giving your sleep a score each night. The score calculation takes into account all the data and variables of the sensor to determine a score out of 100 for your previous night. It takes into account both environmental data (disturbances during the night, room too bright for optimal rest) and the way you yourself slept. This score will allow you to link your sleep interruptions to external disruptive elements and adjust them in order toimprove your score every day.
Sense itself is able to identify a problem with your environment and report it to you. Thanks to the built-in speaker, Sense can play background noises to help you calm down and fall asleep.
If you are a couple, no problem. You can get a second Sleep pill and attach it to your spouse's pillow. Sense will analyze the data in separate ways but will also be able to notice interactions, such as snoring or the movements of one partner disturbing the other's sleep.
Sense is available for pre-order at the reasonable rate of $ 129 (i.e. 99 €), shipping costs being free.
