Unboxing of Fii Smart Thermometer

The present packaging a white and cyan color scheme, characteristic of the brand. By opening the main box, a notice is visible in French, superimposed on a rectangular cardboard. The oval shaped object is inserted into specific contours delimited in this same cardboard. Two layers of rigid cardboard of different sizes fit together on the principle of Russian dolls.

On the latter are written various information : A foreword, the presentation of the product, its various functionalities, its accessories, its technical details, its application as well as safety instructions.

By removing the rectangular carton that carries the product and holding it vertically, there are two notches at the top and bottom of the box that can open it. It contains a second notice in English and Chinese.

Design and ergonomics of Fii Smart Thermometer

The originality of this Fii Smart Thermometer lies in its shape. Instead of offering it in a more classic form (stick, rod …), this thermometer is presented in the form of a cuff with a plastic dial. Design, meanwhile, remains classic. If we forget the color and the material of the bracelet, making us think more of a blood pressure monitoring.

Like a touch watch (less luxury) the dial is composed of a digital display as well as an ignition button. Unlike the example mentioned above, it does not react to touch.

The Fii Smart Thermometer works with the help of a battery that must be inserted into the recess on the inside of the watch. You can see on the previous image the type of connection used by the device: Bluetooth.

Applying the Fii Smart Thermometer

The operation of the application proves to be hazardous even if the product was well thought out. We will explain later in this Review the problems of operation. In addition to the Bluetooth connection, a sensor is present on the thermometer wristband to detect the temperature.

Before mentioning the features, we must nevertheless specify thatit is necessary to connect via his email address to receive a code to register his profile. Once the code is received, you must type and confirm a password up to 16 characters.

After registration, the user has access to a digital tutorial to understand the product installation process. It is explained by the diagram below.

The application offers several features. First, a regular time tracking system represented as a graph, analyzing in real time the body temperature of the child over time. The child should keep the thermometer at the arm for several hours so that parents can see a temperature change.

Above the chart, pressing the date displayed at the top of the screen, you will have access to a calendar where you can manually enter your child's temperature after reading. It is also possible to add notes on the health of your newborn baby.

One of the other features proposes to measure the temperature on the instant T. This one is directly displayed on the application, in the area concerned. Rather convenient when the thermometer dial turns off. When it goes to sleep, it still remains functional. The result, normally indicated on the dial, remains written on the screen of the application whatever happens.

You can set different details like the alert temperature. When your child starts having a fever and exceeds the alert temperature, an alarm is triggered. You can set the tone of this alarm according to your preferences in the menu.

In the setup section, you will be able to access the battery level of your device and judge the duration of autonomy. As we wrote above, after multiple tests, we can see inconsistencies in the temperatures given by the application. They focus on a scale between 26 degrees and 33 degrees Celsius.

This can be problematic in that the graph, reporting real-time information, only takes into account data from 32 degrees Celsius. A temperature that remains much lower than what should be given in normal times.

Using the Fii Smart Thermometer

During our Review, we started by attaching the thermometer at the wrist, not being able to install it on the arm due to a simple difference in morphology. The indicated temperature was 27 degrees Celsius. So we tried to Review it on the front to see the differences in the records.

We could observe a margin of only a few degrees. The results have increased by about 5 degrees, which remains insufficient. Maybe it is simply functional on a child's arm, as specified on the product's manual? This would explain the disappointing performance of the Fii Smart Thermometer.

The Fii Smart Thermometer normally attaches around the child's arm and connects via Bluetooth to the application that measures the temperature of the infant. As previously stated, temperatures were well below normal averages. It shows a serious problem of sensor accuracy, the tester being in good health.

After applying it on the front of the tester, the dial only indicated temperatures between 26 and 33 degrees Celsius. Two icons (the first letters of "high" and "low") appear when the temperature is too low or too high. So we mostly saw the icon "low", much less the "high". Why are records so low? We can hypothesize the inaccuracy of the thermometer or that of a questionable Bluetooth connection between the application and the device. We could not find the real cause of the problem.

Fii Smart Thermometer against the competition

In the smart health connected thermometers sector, many products are neck and neck and try to outdo each other. Between the Flo contactless thermometer and the stamp start-up thermometer, many companies are embarking on a race for innovation.

These three products have several common points of which one, majority: the mobile application. Unlike the Fii Smart Thermometer, the Stamp is designed for everyone; including children.

It is developed in the medical field so that doctors can have real-time remote monitoring with their patient. This device had, basically, been designed by three parents wanting to take the temperature of their children at night, without having to wake them up. It was used in the sports field, especially by the German football team during the last World Cup, to measure the temperature of the athletes to the effort.

The Flo, meanwhile, goes further in innovation. It works with an app, but the front thermometer can be used without a smartphone. However, the result will be transmitted directly to the application. He is famous for his precision.

Its margin of error would be 0.2 degrees, which contrasts with the Fii Smart thermometer. The Flo is sold at a price of around 35 euros. A little more expensive for a product that seems better, but only compatible with iOS.

      Overview

Design and finishes: In all honesty, the Fii Smart Thermometer does not shine by its beauty. Its foam strap and plastic-coated dial leave something to be desired.  Features: The pairing between the thermometer and the application is done without much difficulty. The application displays the same temperature as on the medical device. However, as explained earlier in the Review, the results displayed seem to be a bit … distorted. Use / learning: Once the Bluetooth is activated and the device turned on, the grip is intuitive, just wait.Value for money: For fifteen euros more you can turn to the competition for a much more precise product for all ages. Fii Smart does not have these qualities … Too bad.
