SmartHalo 2 – A smart health connected computer for your bike
I already told you about the SmartHalo a few years ago. Its creators are back with SmartHalo 2; an improved version that promises better connectivity and places fitness data directly in the cyclist's field of vision.
The SmartHalo 2 is a minimalist circular device that mounts in the center of the handlebars. Also, it uses a ring of colored lights to emit signals step by step; thus guiding the cyclist to his destination once he has entered the smartphone application.
But this time, its creators added a 1.5-inch OLED screen in the center, which can be used to display all kinds of information. This can correspond to the speed of the cyclist in real time or to physical condition indicators such as distance; or the time and calories burned. It is also capable of receiving notifications from compatible applications such as WhatsApp, Messenger or Slack.
It also means that more detailed navigation information is available to the user; such as the distance to a next turn or final destination, points of interest along the way, and weather alerts. You can access it by left or right swipe gestures. The SmartHalo 2 can even tell you how much you saved in C02 emissions by cycling to your destination that day.
Other upgrades include a 250 lumen headlamp and a brand new alarm system based on an internal motion detector that sets off a 100 decibel alarm. For weight-conscious cyclists, the SmartHalo 2 would also be 30% lighter than its predecessor.
Currently being campaigned on Kickstarter, the SmartHalo 2 is available starting at $ 99. Delivery is scheduled for December 2019 if everything goes as planned.
