The headphones are delivered in a very classic black box. The least we can say is that the packaging has not been treated in terms of design. The cardboard is not reinforced and the colors are not really original. The front of the box bears only the name of the headphones, while on the back, we can read the specifics of the product: features, memory, battery, etc.

In terms of ergonomics, the packaging is however very effective. He doesn't skimp on tabs helping you unpack your product with as much care as ease. No need to tear it all up, or turn the box upside down to knock off a piece that you just can't get hold of. Everything is done so that you can easily access all the elements.

Let's take this opportunity to list these elements: once the box is open, you will discover the famous earphones accompanied by a small charging box. In a cardboard box placed inside the package, you can find several user and information manuals, different earphone sizes as well as the USB cable used to charge the charging case.

Everything is very functional overall, but we can regret a certain lack of inspiration in terms of look. That said, this option is better than raising the price.

Design and ergonomics of Samsung Gear IconX

There are three models of Samsung standalone headphones: blue, white and black and gold. It is this last color that we were able to Review at the editorial office. Nothing to say about it, they are both stylish and sober. The golden border gives them a touch of elegance without overdoing it. About twice as big as conventional wired headphones, they remain relatively small and are very discreet once in place.

Another big advantage: they hold perfectly in place. It is sometimes difficult to find headphones that match the shape of his ear and do not slip. The Samsung Gear IconX fit perfectly inside the ear and then stay put. The box offers three sizes: L, M or S so that everyone can find their account. This is an essential characteristic since the product is mainly made to be used during a sports practice.

On this side, no problem, you can run, jump, or do any exercise, they won’t move. This is the main argument in favor of these headphones: it is very pleasant to be able to practice a sporting activity in music without being constantly bothered by the wires of your earphones or headphones.

Features of Samsung Gear IconX

The latest Samsung headphones connect, like all other products of the same type, via Bluetooth to your smartphone. Connection is very easy to do, just wear the headphones (which automatically activates the pairing mode) and select Gear IconX R from the Bluetooth menu on your phone.

But they offer many other features that are both innovative and practical, the main one being their total autonomy. What is the point of having wireless headphones if you have to constantly use your laptop to choose music, adjust sound, or take a call? The Samsung Gear IconX have a touch surface that allows you to manage all these parameters directly from the headphones.

Just press once to start or stop a song, twice to go to the next song or three times to go back to the previous song. Slide your finger up to increase the sound, and down to decrease it. If you receive a call, press twice to answer the call, then hang up when the call is finished.

Even better, if you don't want to be disturbed during your workout, you can leave your smartphone at health home: Gear IconX have 4GB of memory allowing you to store your favorite tunes and leave to spend yourself with nothing but your headphones and motivation.

Samsung Gear app

If you decide to take your phone with you, Bluetooth connection will allow you to use the Samsung Gear fitness app. We are not going to lie to you, it took a very long time to successfully use this application. On the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, this was possible after several tries, but not with the Galaxy Grand Prime.

The reason is simple: you must have a phone with Android 4.4 and 1.5 GB RAM to run the application. Remember to check the specifications of your smartphone before buying the headphones, or any other product in the Samsung Gear range.

Once the app (with difficulty) is launched, you can enter your personal data, your heart rate, and schedule your run. Slow running, athletic walking, endurance… the possibilities are numerous. The app will keep you informed of the calories burned and the progress of your heart rate. You can then store this information in order to track the progress you are making.

The sound of Samsung Gear IconX

Samsung's latest headphones were primarily created for athletes, and this is particularly noticeable when we focus on the sound quality. Far from being bad, he is banal at best. If you want to buy headphones that offer a sound experience worthy of the name, the Earins will be more likely to satisfy you. Although the sound of these is a bit muffled, it remains much richer, where Gear IconX offer the thinnest sound.

Proof that sound is not Samsung's primary concern with this product: the headphones do not have a mode to muffle outside noise, but to increase it ! This is very useful for playing sports while remaining attentive to its environment and can even save lives, but the music is beautiful and well relayed in the background.

The Samsung Gear IconX against the competition

Samsung's standalone headphones looked set to be the heavyweights of the market wireless headphones, and they did not disappoint. Versatile, innovative and efficient, they are the perfect headphones if you want to practice a sport in music in an optimal way.

On the other hand, music lovers will not find it. The sound is clearly not worth an investment of € 229. If you don't plan to use the fitness features of Gear IconX, go your way.
