superhero prostheses for children
Open Bionics unveiled a series of somewhat special prostheses during the Disney Accelerator Demo Day. Printed in 3D, these are in the colors of children's favorite superheroes, a great idea to change them into super-kids.
Great strides have been made in making dentures more comfortable and smarter. The arrival of the 3D printer has also made it possible to create incredible models, getting ever closer to reality. So often the manufactured members remain discreet, the manufacturer Open Bionics decided him to offer brightly colored models, the design of which resembles that of costumes, armor… superheroes !
Powered by TechStar, the program Disney Accelerator provides funds and resources intended for technological innovators. During the three-month program, entrepreneurs have $ 120,000 in capital and are mentored by the Disney executive. At the end of the program, participants present their inventions and services to groups of investors, other entrepreneurs, industry leaders, Disney executives during Demo Day.
Open Bionics therefore used this program to design its 3D printed hand prostheses around three themes :
Iron man : which will make children feel like they have some of Tony Stark's armor.
Snow Queen : with a bright blue and white prosthesis, small flakes and crystal stars drawn on it.
Star Wars : a gray and black prosthesis with a lightsaber on the top of the arm.
What radically change the vision that a child can have of his prosthesis by making it more fun and making him a mini superhero. In addition to the design of these superb prostheses, the founder of Open Bionics, Joel Gibbard, is also responsible for open source project “Open Hand”, which provides free plans to create ABS plastic prostheses and 3D printing.
