The Buzz – A wearable to reduce sexual assault

The Buzz is a brand new wearable that aims to reduce the number of sexual assaults on American campuses.

The Buzz comes with a blood alcohol sensor to track your drunkenness. The idea is that drunkenness affects the ability to consent to sexual activity. So being able to say if you are in a state of consent or could not help reduce sexual assault on the Campuses.

If you meet another The Buzz user, you can pair your two devices to share your ability to give consent. If one of you enters the red zone, the one in which you are too drunk, the person with whom you have paired your The Buzz will receive an alert.

Since your potential partner could ignore this alert if he has bad intentions, your friends will also receive a notification when you are in the red zone; which is probably more useful. You can also send your location to your friends, and there is an SOS feature that will alert them in case you are panicking.

New Deal Design manager Gadi Amit told Dezeen that it is important for the company to make The Buzz appeal to men to wear it. This is why The Buzz can also be used for flirting. If you are interested in another The Buzz wearer, you can send them a gentle vibration to let them know.

This wearable was designed by a team of three men and three women, which made it possible to integrate the experiences of both sexes in the device. There are wearables that can track blood alcohol levels, like Proof, but they are much bulkier than The Buzz.

If this product interests you, know that it will be marketed between the 1st and 2nd quarter of 2019. Buzz wants to distribute the wearable for free with subscriptions at $ 1 per year, a strategy similar to the initial income model of WhatsApp.
