The first drug smart health connected by Proteus

Proteus is an American company that developed the first smart health connected pill (Helius) which sends a signal when a drug is ingested. An alternative to iMedipac?

A bit like the iMedipac smart pill dispenser by Medissimo, an American start-up working on the first smart health connected medication. After raising more than $ 125 million from companies like Oracle or Novartis, Proteus Digital Health has developed a smart pill that patients can take easily (or not) and then better control drug intake. This “Smart Pill” has obtained recognition from the American FDA as well as the European CE label.

Helius: A smart pill easy to ingest

This pill contains a sensor of about 1 square millimeter which allows monitoring the intake of a treatment (time, etc.). To this, it transmits information on the patient's vital signs: temperature, heart rate, sleep … To recover all this information, a patch stuck on the user's chest makes the link between Helius and a smartphone application, via a Bluetooth connection. The patient can then send them by SMS or email to interested persons (family, doctors, etc.). The body is well made since gastric juices are capable of producing the necessary electricity when transmitting the pill information! The pill is also not digested since it is made of an assembly of copper and magnesium, which thus avoids the digestive tract immediately.

A factory with more than 200 employees is slated to open in the coming weeks in the UK, thanks to support from British Social Security (NHS). It should also be remembered that the company Proteus has signed an agreement with the English pharmacy chain Lloydspharmacy for the distribution of Helius.

A few days ago, subject matter experts Frost & Sullivans published a study on smart pills, predicting a huge boom in these new treatments in the next 5-7 years.
