The first smartwatch for football referees
Refsix is the very first smartwatch for football referees. The man in black can not have control of everything that happens on the ground, the startup doubleix therefore created this little wearable for them.
Refsix is actually a Sony SmartWatch 3. The innovation is therefore an all-in-one solution allowing you to keep a history of the matches that took place during the season. Currently only available for Android users (an iPhone / Apple Watch app is in the pipeline), this solution is on sale for £ 180. Statistics, yellow cards and other results will no longer hold any secrets for you.
The next updates will even allow you to have performance statistics such as maps of distances traveled, a day's top speed or its positioning. Hassan Rajwani, CEO of doublesix, explained his idea and his invention. "The application was developed in six months, but it was originally imagined eight years ago as part of my thesis at the university. I then got a job, but bored, I decided to make this idea a reality. "
But then, why a smartwatch for referees? Hassan Rajwani explains his choice: “We studied the referees and noticed that nobody wore a smartwatch. Next year, in the Premier League, referees will have to wear three watches: a Polar, a Hawk-Eye and a Tag Heuer smart health connected. We wanted to build something that could fit in one watch. "
The ambition to see great referees like Mark Clattenburg or Martin Atkinson wearing his smartwatch is not a priority. Hassan Rajwani first wants to focus at the base, on unknown referees, where there is a large number of referees. The CEO of doublesix explains that he and his team have managed to reach an agreement with Sony to offer the software and hardware in packs. So will this model be a success? Case to follow!
