The first smartwatch in Windows 10
Yes, read the title. TrekStor is the first smartwatch on Windows 10; but you might be disappointed to learn that it will not be a competitor to the Apple Watch or the Samsung Gear.
TrekStor is therefore configured to embed the Microsoft operating system … but for professional and commercial purposes. To be precise, the OS will be Windows 10 IoT Core, which will allow it to run universal Windows applications and will be able to connect to the cloud.
At the moment we do not know much of its specifications but we know that it will be equipped with a 1.54 inch screen with Gorilla Glass 3 to add a layer of protection. We also know that the body of the smart health connected watch will fit into a soft touch case. Finally, we also know that this wearble will support notifications and voicemails.
On the connectivity front, there will be Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. There will also be plenty of storage space, high processing power and good battery life to perform different business scenarios.
Revealed in a Windows Blog article, commercial uses could be inventory management in retail, service automation in manufacturing, industrial automation in manufacturing, and streamlining patient care in healthcare .
While Microsoft continues to make a push with its mixed reality and its VR efforts, the Redmond company turned away to make other wearables after it had stopped producing its tracker at the end of 2016. For info, this fitness tracker and the brand's hybrid smartwatch did not work on Windows 10.
To be successful, Microsoft will need to make its Windows 10 IoT Core operating system work on other devices, including smartphones and laptops. More details on the TrekStor smartwatch are expected to be revealed in the coming months.
