After a very long wait and a few setbacks on the way, Swatch finally announced its very first smart health connected watch: the Tissot T-Touch Connect Solar.

It is a hybrid model which, linked to a smartphone, allows access to its notifications as well as to fitness functions. Obviously with this name, the device works with solar energy, Swatch promising exceptional autonomy.

Tissot T-Touch Connect Solar: a Swiss watch

The smartwatch runs on SwALPS or Swiss Autonomous Low Power System, a proprietary OS. But according to journalists from Wareable, it’s simply the SwatchOS, announced a few years ago by the watchmaker.

In fact, the site speculates that this surprise announcement is a way for Swatch to divert the attention of its investors. The economic crisis linked to the coronavirus promising to reduce sales of watches, the Tissot T-Touch Connect Solar will allow them to nibble a few market shares.

What the smartwatch will offer consumers

Large, the watch case measures 47 mm. True to its brand image, Swatch will offer the device in high-end finishes: ceramic and titanium. In addition, it will be compatible with both iOS and Android, but also with HarmonyOS from Huawei. This decision will greatly improve the chances of the model in China.

Against the flow of the entire tech industry, the watch will not ship no heart rate monitoring. It should also not include a GPS and should be content with that of the smartphone.

But buyers may be won over by 6 months of autonomy offered by the Tissot T-Touch Connect Solar battery thanks to the solar.

Swatch relies on this smart health connected watch to save furniture. Indeed, if the arrival of the Apple Watch has not completely decimated the traditional watch industry, the big names in the sector are losing momentum. Sales of Swiss watches have fallen sharply since 2015 and the launch of Apple’s smartwatch.

However, the price ofaround 945 euros of the Tissot T-Touch Connect Solar is probably not going to make it the next bestseller of the category. Sales start in June or July.
