The Fitbit Blaze will compete with the Apple Watch

It's official, here is the Fitbit Blaze! The American who presented at the previous CES his smart health connected bracelets Charge, Charge HR and Surge comes with a "fitness watch", which will compete directly with the famous Apple Watch.

Fitbit did not wait for the start of the CES to formalize its new product: the Fitbit Blaze. The manufacturer is moving further away from the traditional smart health connected bracelet by adding more new features like receiving notifications (SMS, calls, calendar) just like what he's already doing on his Superwatch Surge. The aesthetics of the product converge more towards that of an ordinary watch, unlike the previous products of the brand.

The Fitbit Blaze measures and displays on its screen directly the classic fitness measures like number of steps, distances traveled, calories burned or sleep. There is also a multisport mode that allows you to select the sport that you practice, and that allows the application to refine the calculation of the effort produced (unfortunately it is not yet automatic). Fitbit also took advantage of the recent purchase of the Fitsar fitness video application to integrate a series of three videos (with the possibility of adding more) directly on the wristband. There is no need to have a smartphone nearby to enjoy these sports tips videos, but syncing data with the mobile application will be as always in Bluetooth.

To note that the latter does not integrate GPS as is the case at the Surge, which allows it to keep a more affordable price: the Fitbit Blaze will be marketed from next March, for the sum of $ 199 (or € 199). The Surge is maintained at $ 249 (€ 249).

As for the autonomy of the Fitbit Blaze, it takes about 5 days, about the same as for the Surge. If this is not particularly short (see the Apple Watch which is only a day), it is not particularly long. This is particularly related to PurePulse technology which allows Fitbit Blaze bracelet to measure heart rate continuously.

Fitbit focuses on personalization

Like what Apple does with its smart health connected watch, Fitbit wants to offer several variations for its new watch. This goes through interchangeable straps with different finishes and a more or less premium case. At first, only the stainless steel case will be available, but Fitbit does not exclude more upscale finishes.

In the end, the addition could potentially go well beyond the Fitbit Surge: a stainless steel bracelet will cost for example 130 $ (130 €), a leather version will be marketed for 100 $ (100 €) and the plastic version to $ 30. By default, the fitness watch will arrive in a box with a black, blue and purple elastomer strap. We will appreciate that with this offer, Fitbit will give a new spirit to its activity sensors, offering a less sporty and more discreet finish. It will probably seduce an even wider user target.
