By a decree of May 11, 2020, the Interministerial Digital Directorate (Dinum) deployed for one year an experiment of the FranceConnect portal by companies operating in the health, education, social, transport and rental sectors. .

FranceConnect does not appealA year later, the finding is pretty bad: very few companies have taken advantage of this feature, reports The echoes in an article published this Friday, July 2. Therefore, Dinum decided to extend the testing period for an additional year, hoping that this time the experimentation would seduce.

As a reminder, FranceConnect is an online authentication system set up by the State. Its primary objective is to allow citizens to connect to digital public sites and services for which their identity has already been verified. A unique code allows you to connect to each site without having to create an account each time.

Authentication will be done through the identity provider that the user has chosen, provided that the level of authentication of the account (low, substantial, high) is at least equivalent to that required by the service provider in question. The La Poste group offers its digital identity service via FranceConnect.

A unique identifierIt was in 2018, for the first time, that the State decided to open the benefit of FranceConnect to the private sector. Various financial players had seized on this new functionality, such as Harmonie Mutuelle or Younited Credit. For private players, FranceConnect is a way to increase traffic to their site because Internet users only need to use a unique identifier.

The second deployment – dedicated to the health, transport, rental and education sectors – did not work as well. Asked by The echoes, Christine Balian, the program director at Dinum, explains that she did not receive “more than fifty requests“. Gold, “given the health situation, very few companies have actually installed the FranceConnect button on their websites “.

Reason for which Dinum is giving itself a new deadline. “We want to verify that it works, that it simplifies the life of Internet users while securing their approach and drastically improving the user experience of the service concerned.“, details Christine Balian. The health and economic crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic could partly explain this failure. An observer of the digital identity sector, quoted by the economic media, also regrets the lack of communication on this initiative .
