the French and the Shared Medical Record

The study company B3TSI, in partnership with Egora, Medisite, e-Health and Pharmaceuticals, conducted a survey on the French and the Shared Medical Record. Discovery.

Initiated by the law of August 13, 2004, the DMP (Personal Medical Record before 2015, Shared since) lived many lives before arriving in homes, medical offices and other health facilities last November. A quasi-founding myth of French e-health, this tool has already won over 5 million users in France in just a few months after Health Insurance. "This figure is corroborated by the survey – The French and the Shared Medical Record, from openness to use – that we conducted and clearly demonstrates that the DMP is today a reality for an ever increasing part of the French" specifies Alexis Bonis Charancle, Associate Director of B3TSI.

88% of people affected by a chronic illness know about DMP versus 75% of people without chronic illness. Logically, more chronic patients are more likely to have created their DMP (18% versus 11%).

An impact of communication campaigns

Since November 6, Health Insurance has launched a vast campaign to publicize the DMP and raise awareness of its opening by all users. This seems to be bearing fruit. For example, 61% of those who know about DMP say they have heard about it through the media, whether it be an article or an advertisement.

If the media is the 1re source of information for all respondents, the origin of knowledge of DMP for those who have opened a DMP is in order their health insurance fund (50%), the media (33%) and in 3e position pharmacists (20%). We can see here the ability to support primary health insurance funds with users of the health system.

Besides, for Dr. Alain Trebucq, President and CEO of Global Media Health "Since Health Insurance assumed responsibility for the deployment of the DMP, there has been a shift. It was time ! Because DMP is essential for good coordination of care, especially for chronic patients. We are still stunned by such a delay in its implementation when it has existed for several years elsewhere than with us, for example in Euskadi, the Spanish Basque province. "

On the other hand, it is not only a knowledge of principle. 2 out of 3 people who know about DMP spontaneously state that it is a " digital health book containing their medical information, searchable by professionals ".

This importance of communication around the DMP and its national redeployment in recent months is also demonstrated by the date of creation of their DMP by the French: 3 out of 4 have created their DMP for less than 6 months.

The popular DMP.com site

Whether chronically ill or not, the choice of French people to open their DMP is that of simplicity. Thus, among those with a DMP, 65% have done it via the site www.dmp.com.

A growing interest of the French

If 13% of French people have opened their DMP, why have the others not yet done so? First, 37% haven't thought about it yet or haven't had the time (only 31% if they have a chronic disease) and 26% don't know how to do it. Long stressed, the lack of confidence in data security concerns only 13% of respondents (but 22% of those affected by a chronic disease); far behind the lack of information (20%). Note that only 1% of respondents indicated that they had not opened their DMP because they thought it was not useful.

In fact, after having introduced them to the DMP functionalities, 87% of French people say they are interested in creating their DMP. Be careful however, because 15% of people affected by a chronic disease declare that they will not do it (versus 8% of non sick people).

As for those who have already opened it, French people who declare themselves interested will first turn to the Internet to create their DMP (60%) but also much more to their doctor (30%). Proof that the latter still has its place in the digital age in health.

Survey carried out by B3TSI with a sample of 1,027 people, representative of the French population aged 18 and over (quota method: age, sex, UDA9 region, size of agglomeration, type of CSP) including 350 people affected by a chronic disease. The interviews were carried out by online self-administered questionnaire from March 20 to April 4, 2019.
