The Google Glass Enterprise Edition are finally official!

The Google Glass Enterprise Edition are finally official! On January 19, 2015, Google however stopped its Google Glass Explorer program. But the X Lab project was not dead either.

Before the Google Glass Enterprise Edition, the Glass At Work program had been launched. The Glass project led by Jay Kothari therefore seems to initiate "a new chapter". The goal: to conquer the aviation, medical and industrial sectors.

Google Glass Enterprise Edition

Starting today, companies wishing to use AR glasses will be able to contact one of the Glass software partners. Each device will only manage the one application it needs. One of Google’s customers, AGCO, told Wired that he paid between $ 1,300 and $ 1,500 per pair. The Glass EE model is used in 50 companies, including GE, Boeing and Volkswagen.

One of the biggest criticisms of the first version of Google Glass was about their design. Even with the help of Oakley and Ray-Ban, Google had failed to create a slightly less ugly prototype. With Enterprise Edition, the design is less important but some changes have been made to this new opus.

Jay Kothari explained that the Google Glass Enterprise Edition was lighter and more comfortable to use. Power and battery have also been improved. However, constant transmission from an external battery pack is required. The Glass Pod, which houses all electronic devices, can be removed from the frame by pressing the camera button and can then be smart health connected to regular glasses or safety glasses.

The integrated glasses camera is now an 8 MP camera. A red light has also been added to warn those around you that you are filming. The Google Glass EE are also equipped with Wi-Fi.

Finally, note that Jay Kothari has indicated that the Glass team is back at X Lab. This team will work in particular with Google Cloud teams and Glass partners. So, can we soon Review a new version of Google Glass Explorer? Will we soon be able to take advantage of its AR functionality on a daily basis?
