the Google Glass to help in different social situations

Researchers have developed an application for Google Glass that allows people with autism to better interpret the emotions of people around them.

Autism spectrum disorders are characterized, among other things, by social learning difficulties. Studies have shown that autistic people only partially perceive the faces of those who address him and therefore can not capture the emotions of this person through his expressions and nonverbal communication. This lack of understanding of others' emotions drastically limits the social development of the person with autism. The Google Glass Smart Glasses, however, could be of great help.

The Google Glass to help people with autism

Researchers used a smartphone smart health connected to Google Glass glasses. With facial recognition software, the smart glasses indicate, in real time, the emotions of the people who communicate with him. According to the physicians who participated in the study: " Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) have shown a lack of faculties to treat faces, such as distinguishing fear from surprise and identifying more subtle emotions. Children also have difficulty with facial engagement and eye contact. Learning this from autistic children is important for their social development, it's very much about empathy ".

Scientists have conducted a first experiment on 14 children with autism. These children have, for 10 weeks, used this device at health home. Although limited to a rather small sample, the first results are remarkable. Indeed, 12 of the 14 children showed, after these 10 weeks of testing, significant improvement in eye contact and social interaction. Larger scale tests including a Review group are being conducted and, if the results are confirmed, Google Glass could soon become an important part of helping people with autism.
