The Google Pixel Watch could have a camera built into the dial
What if the Google Pixel Watch is equipped with a camera? This is suggested by a patent from the Mountain View giant that LetsGoDigital spotted. I'll explain everything to you!
So does this really concern the Google Pixel Watch? Filed in 2017 and granted last week, this patent details a drawing with a single-lens camera in the center of the screen of a watch.
To be precise, the patent presents seven drawings which illustrate what Google imagines; a smart health watch with a camera mounted behind its screen, capable of taking photos through the glass. However, it's not exactly described how its Wear OS platform would work with this element.
With the exception of the Samsung Gear 2, launched in 2015, none of the main players in the smartwatch offered a camera in a watch. So it's a huge bet Google is making with its possible next wearable.
However, it may be interesting to note that Google’s line of Pixel phones has so far been limited to single lens cameras. That could change in Google Pixel 4. But that means that even a photo taken through the glass of a watch could end up with impressive details and colors; given the pedigree of Google on this front.
Of course, this is naturally only a patent filing. It would not be the first time that a patent has not been used for a commercial model. This is more often the case than the reverse in the small world of high-tech.
Remember, there is still a very real possibility that we may not see a Google Pixel Watch either. Although it is still possible that Google will launch its first smartwatch under its own brand before the end of 2019, no information has come to validate this. So we need to be patient.
