Some rumors announced the Jawbone UP3 already a few days ago, the American brand finally decided to formalize it today! More than one after the release of the Jawbone UP24, a new, more sophisticated (but more expensive) version is now coming to the market.

The Jawbone UP3 at the forefront of the market

Like its competitor Fitbit, which has just released three new smart health connected bracelets, Jawbone does not want to enter the smarwatch market either. With the Jawbone UP3, third generation bracelet, the start-up intends to reposition itself in the high end of the market. The company, which has raised more than $ 471 million, is using its recent acquisitions like BodyMedia to integrate cutting-edge technologies such as a heart rate sensor in real time.

We also find the classic characteristics of a tracker such as tracking physical activity, or sleep in a unique way. Why unique? Because beyond distinguishing the phases of light and deep sleep, the Jawbone UP3 is also able to analyze REM sleep, which no competitor does on the market.

Thanks to a series of new sensors (3-axis accelerometer, bio-impedance and thermometer, it is also capable of determining the activity you do alone (cycling, running, basketball, etc.). The Jawbone UP3 is intelligent since it will be able to refine your advice and monitoring physical activity over time. At the start, he will ask his user questions about the mobile application (see image below) before being able to determine only the activity that has been performed.

The start-up has also worked on a new version of the application that will give more relevant advice, called Smart Coach. For example, in the case of sleep, the application will be able to give you wise advice such as taking a shower before bed or darkening the room.

Yves Béhar, new designer for Jawbone

In terms of design, the Jawbone UP3 differs from its previous versions by a slightly thinner strap, and this time adjustable (there are 3 versions of the old models). Once again, it was the object design specialist Yves Béhar who imagined this new version. On the front of the bracelet, the part which integrates all the sensors and which is available in silver or black (for the moment), while the rest of the bracelet is flexible. In the coming months, new colors and styles will be announced to appeal to as many users as possible. If the previous versions of Jawbone were very inflexible, this new model will be even more versatile, with the possibility of slipping it under a sweater / shirt without problem.

Jawbone also announces that its bracelet will have a battery life of 7 days (the Jawbone UP24 lasts 15 days, but it does not have a heart rate sensor, which is relatively energy-consuming), with a water resistance up to 10 meters. On the connection side, you will need to have an iOS or Android device with Bluetooth 4.0. It should also be noted that the Jawbone UP3 and its application are compatible with HealthKit, which will allow data to be displayed directly on the Apple Health application.

Last detail: its price! It will be available for 179.99 € by the end of the year. From the images we saw, it might be interesting to wait for the slightly more colorful versions …
