The Jawbone UP4 and UP2 are official!

[ad_1]

We just learned two weeks ago that the Jawbone ‘UP3’ would finally be delivered in April, after 6 months of delay. That did not stop the brand from announcing the succession with the Jawbone UP2 and the Jawbone UP4 this morning. On fairly different price ranges, the two new smart health connected bracelets complete the range, without fundamentally changing it.

Jawbone UP4 is like UP3, with NFC

As when it announced the UP Move and UP3 last October, Jawbone today introduces two new activity sensors. The one who should logically establish himself as the new benchmark for the brand should be the Jawbone UP4, which will integrate contactless payment by NFC, with an exclusive partnership with American Express. This news therefore confirms the rumor that turned out earlier in the week, Jawbone therefore becomes the first 100% Quantified Self brand to integrate the possibility of paying from its smart health connected bracelet. Unfortunately, this also limits its use: you must have an American Express card to be able to pay by NFC. This must first be smart health connected to the Jawbone iOS or Android mobile application (which is being updated). We can imagine that the bank card company had to financially support Jawbone, who suddenly even offers to subscribe to an AmEx card from their mobile app …

Jawbone UP4 with contactless payment

Jawbone UP4 users will be able to benefit from features similar to UP3, including its design, but with integrated contactless payment. To cite the main features of the UP3 and UP4, we obviously follow the number of steps, calories burned, sleep, but also the heart rate or the stress level. Unfortunately the Jawbone UP4 will not be waterproof either, but only "splash proof". True to the Jawbone tradition, you should not expect to see a screen appear, unlike its big rival Fitbit. According to the brand, a screen generates too much distraction, and makes it forget that the smart health connected bracelet must be forgotten every day to hold as long as possible on the wrist. But it is still the visible LED system on the front of the bracelet that will allow the wearer to see what mode he is in (waking up, sleeping).

The smart health connected bracelet therefore comes to work on the flats of the famous Apple Watch, which integrates Apple Pay and NFC and which appeals to so many users. The Jawbone UP4 will be sold for $ 199, compared to $ 179 for the UP3. Obviously, with the Jawbone UP3 which is not yet delivered, we will also have to wait a bit for the UP4. According to the brand, it is this summer that fans will be able to buy the UP4. In itself, the delivery time seems reasonable since it differs very little from the previous version.

Jawbone UP2 replaces UP24

Last year, Jawbone had already made the effort to offer a cheap smart health connected bracelet, with its UP Move. For only $ 50, users had access to very reasonable features, which allowed the brand to compete with its entry-level counterparts from Misfit or Fitbit. The new Jawbone UP2 is presented by designer Yves Béhar on the Jawbone official blog, which places it between the UP Move and the UP24.

If it was now necessary to compare it with other products of the brand, it takes up the design of the Jawbone UP3 quite strongly. It is therefore 45% thinner than the UP24 and above all cheaper ($ 112.57), which will appeal to more than one. On the other hand, it is still much more efficient than the entry-level UP Move since it allows vibration notifications and the intelligent alarm (which wakes the user according to his phase of sleep). However, there is still no possibility of measuring your heart rate, the UP2 does not have the famous bio-impedance sensors. Like the rest of the range, it is also not waterproof, but resists splashing and showering.

The Jawbone UP2 is available today, and is expected to arrive in Amazon in the coming days.. Here is a table to buy it at the best price:

Jawbone would also have secured $ 300M

An anonymous source also confirmed that Jawbone had finally raised the $ 300 million from the BlackRock investment fund, rumored to have been circulating earlier in March. During this new fundraiser, the company would be valued at more than $ 3 billion. Company CEO Hosain Rahman did not comment on the news, but simply said he believed "Jawbone is now in a strong market position with these products." He also highlighted the patent portfolio that the brand owns, which alone has a significant impact on the valuation of Jawbone.
