The new add-on from Philips Hue
Philips Hue now has a motion sensor that can turn on the lights. The Philips Hue Motion Sensor will make it even easier to automate your health home lighting.
The Motion Sensor therefore joins the Philips Hue add-on range. Good news for all those who wanted to use motion detection to simplify their installation.
The Hue motion detector is a small white box that works with two AAA batteries. You can install it from anywhere in or around your health home. It only detects movement and allows you to automate the lighting when you enter the room where it is installed. This small module has been designed to simplify our lives.
It allows you to choose which lights to turn on when a motion sensor detects motion. It also allows you to define how long to keep them on. It is also possible to define a period of time during which it is not possible to reset the bulbs with the motion detector after switching them off with a switch. It can also be set to turn on the lights only when the room where it is located is dark. This will avoid wasting energy during the day.
The sensor has some limitations, however. It can only detect movement up to about 5 meters. You will be able to reduce this detection distance but you will not be able to reduce its sensitivity. That means your cat could turn on the lights by the way … According to Philips, this feature will come later.
Motion detectors will soon be sold at a price of around 40 euros. A Hue bridge can support a maximum of twelve detectors. These motion detectors are obviously Alexa, HomeKit, SmartThings, Nest, Logitech and Bosch Smart health home compatible. Note also that this small sensor is only the first in a long list since Philips intends to expand its range quickly.
