The new Withings Body Scan hits a nerve

After the success of its Body Cardio, Withings unveiled a new smart bathroom scale: the Withings Body Scan. It is overloaded with bodily sensors that can access your nervous system.

Withings Body Scan boosted with sensors

The Withings Body Scan can assess nerve activity in the feet and has a 6-lead ECG sensor. The latter can check the heart rate and warn you of signs of atrial fibrillation. And it can even tell you your weight, fat percentage and estimate your vascular age.

The Body Scan has one year of battery life and a larger 3.2-inch screen to show your vital stats.

As you’d expect, all the data resides in the Withings app, which has been expanded to include guided programs and content to achieve particular goals. The obvious application is weight loss. But it is also expected to improve parameters such as vascular age.

A reinforced body analysis

Body composition was also improved. The Withings Body Scan can assess your body composition in terms of fat, muscle mass, water percentage; and more.

The first thing we noticed about the Withings Body Scan is its protruding upper. It is a handle on a cord, used for body composition analysis. You hold the handle with your feet on the scale, and the Body Scan can estimate the composition of body segments; namely arms, legs and torso.

Of course, it’s the nervous evaluations that get the attention. The scale can assess sweat secretion in the feet to monitoring sudomotor function; which is calculated into a single score.

In short, healthy living increases sudomotor function, which shows that your nervous system is healthy. Therefore, all the steps you take to lose weight and be healthy will also have a positive impact.

Finally, the Body Scan will be available in the second half of 2023.
