The Nubia Red Magic 5G, the first smartphone with a 144 Hz screen

Still little known in France, the Nubia brand is also used in smartphones gaming with its Red Magic range. Latest model to date, the Red Magic 5G wants to combine gaming experience and classic experience in a single product.
After Black Shark last week, it's Nubia's turn to lift the veil on its focused smartphonegaming, the Red Magic 5G. The Chinese company wants to offer a mobile as efficient as a master key, all without forgetting its main target, the players.
It has almost everything of a mini gaming PC
With this Red Magic 5G, Nubia has not been idle. The brand is trying to stand out from the competition by introducing technologies never seen before. Thus, this smartphone has a 6.65 inch Amoled panel with a refresh rate of 144 Hz, when its rivals struggle to reach 120 Hz. The tactile refresh rate is 240 Hz – a bit lower than the recent Black Shark 3 Pro (270 Hz). The screen accommodates a fingerprint reader and is adorned with a black border, at the top and at the bottom, just to avoid breaking any notch that could make the gaming experience quite delicate.
The Red Magic 5G is powered by a Snapdragon 865, supported by 12 GB of RAM (an edition with 16 GB of RAM has also been announced, but unlikely to see it land here one day) and 256 GB of internal storage . On the battery side, the manufacturer does not see as big as we might have thought since it is a 4,500 mAh accumulator that is offered. However, the Chinese company relies heavily on its cooling technology. Indeed, in addition to an improved version of the fan already present on the Red Magic 3S, the cooling surface is enlarged by 56% compared to the previous model. This space saving allows you to take advantage of a ventilation system composed of a layer of graphene, a second of aluminum and a real liquid cooling tube. A technique that remains as impressive as ever in a phone. In terms of charging, the Red Magic 5G will come with an 18 W block – even if it accepts a power of 45-55 W.
To appeal to the greatest number, and not only to players, Nubia has not skimped on the photo side. In addition to a main 64 § megapixel sensor (IMX686), this model has an ultra wide-angle module of 8 megapixels and a macro module of 2 megapixels.
An aggressive rate
This Android 10 mobile should offer an experience quite similar to the stock version of the Google OS. Like any good smartphone gaming self-respecting, this Red Magic 5G has a hub from which it is possible to manage the performance of its graphics processor (GPU), to control the management of its fan, or even to directly launch the games downloaded from the Play store. From what we can read on the manufacturer's website, everything is nothing revolutionary, but if the interface remains clear and intuitive like that of the ROG Phone II, it can only be excellent.
In terms of the pure gaming experience, the smartphone has magnetic connectors on the left edge. These authorize the connection to a dock (already existing) to then broadcast the display of its screen on its television. Finally, Nubia placed two "triggers" on the right edge. They're a little deep into the chassis, like a fingerprint reader fused with a start button could be. According to the manufacturer, the response time would be around 2 ms, practical on first person shooters (FPS).
Question price, Nubia is very aggressive. In fact, the Red Magic 5G starts at 3,799 yuan (around € 484) and climbs up to 4,999 yuan (around € 637). A price for now less than that announced by Black Shark. To see which of the two will be able to be competitive when the product is made available …
