The Sony tennis sensor is finally available

Sony is long overdue for its first tennis sensor, the Smart Tennis Sensor. Competing with the Babolat Play racket or the Zepp sensor, this small module which comes to be fixed at the end of the racket handle arrived on the official Japanese store this morning.

We have to go back to January 2014 for the formalization of the product at the CES. Sony presented a sensor which at the time seemed revolutionary, before a multitude of competitors emerged, notably on crowdfunding platforms. The Smart Tennis Sensor still retains some interesting features, but the price may seem a bit high. Among the functionalities, it can measure live the power of the strikes, the place of impact of the ball, the hits and effects on the rope or the speed of the ball. All information is sent via Bluetooth to an iOS or Android mobile application, which is particularly sophisticated. It is also possible to record a live ehealth of the tennis match (obviously, it is not the player who takes care of it, but someone in the audience) on the smartphone and synchronize the data in real time on the ehealth.

Compatible with Wilson, Head, Prince and Yonex rackets

We can however regret that the module is only compatible with Wilson, Head, Prince and Yonex rackets for the moment. In all cases, you will need to buy a small adapter to attach the Smart Sensor to the end of the handle, at a price of $ 9.99. At that, the price of sensor itself is $ 199, with an additional $ 5 for delivery to France. The complete solution therefore comes to around $ 215, or € 188. For comparison, the entire Babolat Play racket is sold for € 299 all inclusive.
