the two Google smartwatches
Rumors continue to swell around Google’s two supposed Nexus smartwatches. These two wearables running Android, of course, are codenamed Angelfish and Swordfish.
Angelfish and Swordfish are therefore two round smartwatches, according to the Android Police website. They could thus compete directly with smart health connected watches such as the Moto 360 and the Fossil Q Founder. A real change of strategy for the American giant.
Let's start with the specifications of the Angelfish. This watch will offer LTE connectivity and will also have a GPS chip. 43.5mm thick, it would be titanium in color and could be fitted with three buttons. It is rumored that the Nexus Angelfish smartwatch has these buttons to take advantage of the new features in the Google Assistant. The report also indicates that the two smartwatches will be well equipped with this assistant and will offer contextual alerts. If this is true, the functionality should also be rolled out on other watches running Android Wear.
Qualcomm wearable manager Pankaj Kedia recently explained how the processor giant has worked with certain companies to launch “plugged in” smartwatches that could work without a smartphone. So it seems that the Angelfish was one of the first.
Now let's move on to the Nexus Swordfish. The report does not give much information regarding this smart health connected watch. It will be much more classic. Its diameter will be 42mm and its thickness 10.6mm. It will only have one button and it is not expected to be equipped with GPS or have LTE connectivity. By cons it will use the new "strap setup" mode from Google.
These two wearables should arrive on the market shortly after the two new Nexus smartphones whose codenames are Sailfish and Marlin. They should be on the market by the end of the year; with slightly less ridiculous names…
