More than 77,000 people are members of the French surfing federation. A figure which is far from encompassing all practitioners in France. From the waves of Biarritz to those of Hawaii, surfing is a sport that brings people together. If it still remains often faithful to the traditions, little by little, the new technologies begin to take their place on the board. Discover our selection of technologies that open the way to smart health connected surfing.

Ploota, the discreet buoy for safe surfing

We were talking about it a few weeks ago during his presentation on the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter. Ploota is a buoy that could well become the best friend of surfers. Everyone who is already on a board, knows that it is impossible to practice this discipline with a buoy or a classic survival system. However, a bad wave, the head hitting a rock or the board, the danger of drowning is never far away. Ploota therefore takes the form of a necklace which is fixed around the neck and which inflates automatically if it spends more than 30 seconds underwater. This allows you to keep your head safe regardless of the conditions, even unconscious.

For now, the project seems to have been suspended on Kickstarter even if the reasons are unknown. We will have to remain attentive to know if he will return. For information, the price mentioned was then 100 €

Trace, the extreme sports activity sensor

Trace is the ideal sensor for extreme sports. If you are going to ski during the winter and surf during the summer, then you should seriously consider it as an investment. Sou in the form of a small box (2 × 5 cm), it hangs on the board or on the helmet. It fulfills a double function. It is indeed a hybrid of activity sensor (speed, rotation, height, calories …) and artistic memory. It can indeed recognize the different figures that you realize (backflip, ollie, 360 °, …) Its estimated autonomy is around 7 hours. Three applications are available to collect your applications depending on whether you are in skateboarding, surfing or snowboarding mode. You can relive your performances there, but also share them with your friends and, above all, assess your progress from one session to the next.

You can start the trace sensor on the company website. You will have to shell out $ 199. In the same genre, you will also find the XenSR and PIQ sensors. If the former is more or less universal for classic sports, the latter does not however offer a sensor dedicated to surfing. You'll find them for skiing, boxing, tennis, golf and kiteboarding.

UltraTide, the smart health connected watch for surfers

Nixon is a brand accustomed to smart health connected watches dedicated to surfing. But the UltraTide is the first of the brand to be both smart health connected and dedicated to this discipline. EIt shows you the real-time conditions for surfing on more than 2700 spots around the world. Tide, wave height, swell direction, wind direction and speed, water and air temperatures and geolocation of the nearest spots. So much information available with a few taps on what turns out to be a real computer dedicated to your discipline, all around the wrist. It also gives you the information for the next day so you can plan what you are going to do! All of this is possible thanks to a partnership with Surfline.

Count 280 € to acquire it on the Nixon site. It is available in 10 different colors. Only small downside, the application necessary for its proper functioning is only available on iPhone.

Samsung Galaxy SurfBoard, the smart health connected surfboard

It's a concept that, to be honest, leaves us a bit dubious. The South Korean brand Samsung has launched a smart health connected surfboard, the Samsung Galaxy Surfboard. While we could consider communing with nature by chaining the waves as a means of disconnection, the high-tech giant wants to keep us smart health connected. She allows to maintain contact between the coach and the surfer (we are therefore in a professional context) but also with the fans. A demo ehealth was published by Samsung Brazil with the 2020 world champion Gabriel Medina. It also makes it possible to obtain more technical information such as the direction and force of the wind, or even the height of the waves and their frequency.

Marcelo Reis, from Leo Burnett Tailor Made agency (co-founding agency of the board), explains on the team : " Pro surfers are away from their fans and their countries for most of the year. Even during their training, they spend hours in the water while their trainers are on the beach. This distance can be an obstacle to the evolution and motivation of the athlete. So far, it's mostly a prototype dedicated to making the buzz. But if the interested audience is large enough, it may well see the light of day. So interested?
