Ultimate Ears, already known for the quality of its speakers, has just launched HyperBoom, a new larger and more powerful Bluetooth speaker. Our full Review of this new product.

Ultimate Ears HyperBoom: a new practical form

Unlike its other cylindrical models, for the HyperBoom, Ultimate Ears has chosen, this time, a square shape. This model is much larger than these predecessors. Despite its size, the enclosure is particularly light (only 5.9 kg). It has a very practical handle for transport. Its flat top is very practical for placing your phone, for example when listening to your favorite playlist.

Design: a rather elegant end result

The HyperBoom speaker is covered with a nice black fabric that gives it an elegant touch. Note that the fabric is water resistant with the IPX4 rating so you don’t have to worry about a spilled glass, a splash if you put it by the pool in summer or a downpour if you forget it after an evening outside. The rubber grip comes in handy because it can be laid flat when not in use.

The HyperBoom is ideal in many situations

The speaker is very easy to transport. We were able to use it to host an outdoor barbecue, but I also took it for a birthday. The main use I made of it was mostly indoors. I obviously used the HyperBoom to play my favorite playlist from my phone, but also with the TV to watch movies and even with my PS4 to play video games.

Convenient touch controls

The HyperBoom has giant volume controls + and – which are tactile. The volume adjustment is very easy. Another feature that we really appreciated is “One-Touch Music Control”. This function allows you to automatically start playing your playlist simply by long pressing the play / pause button. No need to open your phone and select your playlist.

HyperBoom offers an intelligent Bluetooth system

One of the major problems with a party is that different people want to put on their favorite song during the evening. To do this, connect a new device that will take over, causing the music to cut off. Ultimate Ears has developed an intelligent dual Bluetooth solution on HyperBoom. It is thus possible to connect two devices simultaneously. The song selected on the second device will then automatically queue up in the playlist queue. Note that the Bluetooth coverage is very good and even at a distance of more than 30 meters and with walls, I did not find any cuts.

The excellent autonomy of the HyperBoom

Ultimate Ears announces 24 hours of constant reading at 50% volume and three hours at full volume. During our tests, we exceeded 23 hours before having to recharge the battery. To find out its status, simply press the plus and minus buttons simultaneously.

Audio Review: impressive sound rendering

Ultimate Ears wanted great bass. The two 114 mm woofers fulfilled their role too well and the manufacturer had to restrict the bass a little to obtain a balanced rendering. The result is particularly impressive. For the HyperBoom, Ultimate Ears added a small microphone for the "Adaptive EQ". This smart feature automatically adjusts the equalizer. So the rendering will be the same whether you place the speaker in the middle of the room or in a corner.

HyperBoom connectors

On the connection side, the Ultimate Ears HyperBoom speaker offers two Bluetooth wireless connections as we mentioned. Under the handle, you will find a mini-jack input, an optical input and a USB port for charging. Note that in order to use the connections, you will need to lift the rubber handle. It’s a bit of a shame because the speaker loses its resistance to splashing or rain.

Conclusion of our HyperBoom Review

With its dimensions of 364 mm in height, 190 mm for each side, the HyperBoom is a rather large enclosure, making transport in a backpack problematic, for example. The speaker is very practical in many situations both indoors and outdoors. Sound side, no complaints, the sound rendering is really excellent. Features are really welcome, including automatic equalizer adjustment. Battery life is also perfect for many situations. Overall, we are really excited about this quality smart health connected speaker. Sold around 400 euros, it is a very good value for money

The HyperBoom: a speaker for whom?

Clearly, the HyperBoom has been designed to organize parties either indoors or outdoors. It's a speaker that also works very well on a daily basis. A perfect model for those who need power and sound quality. Those who don't need as much power and want a smaller, more easily transportable product can fall back on the other speakers in the Ultimate Ears range.
