Under Armor advocates the "all smart health connected"

Under Armor no longer hides its ambitions in terms of technology and smart health connected objects. After buying the MapMyFitness, MyFitnessPal and Endomondo apps, the American now wants to "connect" all his future clothes and accessories.

Under Armor's director of digital, Robin Thurston, spoke at the CTIA Industry Trade Show on Friday about the technology's intentions. He affirms that in the coming years, all products that will be marketed by Under Armor "will have something smart". It evokes biometric sensors, thermometers or even brightness sensor.

He acknowledges, however, that incorporating these technologies into fabric is not easy, especially since clothing has to be comfortable and resistant to a washing machine. The arrival of 5G, flagship theme of the show, should also help better measure data; Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are not reliable enough, says Thurston.

No products were announced at this conference, but Thurston said that smart health connected clothing "is not far". Last year, he had an agreement with Samsung to work on a project of this type. We could perhaps see at the CES next January the intentions of the American equipment manufacturer. He also had a very large stand at the previous show in Las Vegas, where he proudly exhibited his new platform UA Records, on which he wants to bring together his entire community. In the meantime, his two smart health connected fitness objects, the cardio belt and a watch, are still experiencing mixed success …
