Vital Scout – An ECG patch designed to detect stress

VivaLNK's Vital Scout is a new ECG patch designed to detect stress. It would be an understatement to say that many people are suffering from too much stress. Unfortunately, it can sometimes be difficult to determine the causes of this stress.

The new Vital Scout from VivaLNK is designed to help you find out. Vital Scout comes in the form of a water-resistant electronic patch that adheres to the user's skin. He wears it under his clothes and on his heart for at least 48 hours. A battery charge should normally be sufficient for 72 hours of use.

Using sensors integrated into the electrocardiography (ECG). It continuously monitors changes in users' heart rates. The device also tracks their heart rate, respiratory rate; but also the duration of their physical activity and the duration of their sleep.

All this data is transmitted by Bluetooth to an iOS / Android application on their smartphone. This creates a graph that shows how their stress level has fluctuated over the past few hours; of the last days or weeks.

The idea is that, by keeping track of what they did during particularly stressful or less stressful periods, users can identify the situations that cause and relieve stress. In addition, when users are under particularly intense stress, the application alerts them in real time.

And although there are already wrist stress monitoring devices. VivaLNK claims that the optical photoplethysmography sensors they commonly use are not as accurate as electronic ballasts.

The more comparable Lief patch uses electronic ballasts; although it is slightly larger than the Vital Scout and is more designed as a biofeedback device.
