Wahu unveils adaptive soles for your shoes

Wahu has just presented a somewhat special product since it is a shoe sole with electropneumatic adaptation.

The Wahu team believes that the soles of shoes force us to compromise too much. So, she decided to create a sole with the ability to extend or retract a set of large shock absorbers. They can increase traction and add comfort pads.

When you're on a smoother surface, you'll have better grip by having more rubber on the road. The bearings are moved by means of a set of micro-compressors. They pressurize a set of interconnected cavities to about 2.5 bar (36 psi) to make them exit. Then they release the pressure to get them in.

A built-in battery provides 24 hours of operation. Also, the shoes connect to a smartphone app that allows you to select the mode in which you want them to work. You can also choose the variables by which the shoes can decide to change modes independently.

Indeed, they have enough built-in sensors to monitoring how you are walking. As well as generate a "digital signature" of your stride, analyze the pressure in the areas of the arch of the foot or "prevent falls". When the soles are inflated, you will measure 8 millimeters more.

Wahu will not market its product to the general public. Rather, the company hopes to grab the attention of big shoe brands and bring technology to market that way. A strategy which in my opinion is undoubtedly the right one.
